POSITION PROFILEThe Mechanic performs basic repairs on light duty vehicles, trailers, and trucks. These duties include preventative maintenance, parts replacement while under the supervision of a more experienced mechanic.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Operate safely and in compliance with all established HSSE policies and procedures
  • Inspects units to determine road worthiness
  • Performs scheduled or preventative maintenance
  • Repairs/Replaces damaged or worn parts (lights, mirrors, windows)
  • Assists in the replacement/rebuilding of major components
QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience and Certifications)
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Up to one year of technical school or college required
  • One to two years trailer, truck, or equipment repair and maintenance experience
  • Must have ownership of basic tools to perform the job
  • Valid AK driver's license.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Must have mechanical aptitude
  • Basic troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
  • Working knowledge of equipment/truck/trailer design and functionality
  • Working knowledge of electrical and air systems
  • Working knowledge of computer software systems
  • Follows instructions, responds to management direction, takes responsibility for own actions, completes tasks on time or communicates alternate plans
  • Treats people with respect; keeps commitments, inspires the trust of others, works with integrity and ethically, upholds organizational values
  • Must have basic understanding of DOT regulations and out-of-service conditions
  • Possess excellent communication skills, verbal, written, and listening skills

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. In addition to using computerized diagnostic equipment, mechanics use a variety of power and machine tools, such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, grinding machines, and welding equipment. Hand tools, including pliers, socket and ratchets, and screwdrivers, are also commonly used. The employee is often exposed to a variety of extreme weather and temperature conditions and fluctuations, such as cold, heat, snow, wind, rain, etc.
