Your new company

I am partnered with a full-service HVAC mechanical contractor established in the 1930's servicing Manhattan and the wider boroughs. They operate across the commercial and industrial construction sector with the bulk of their work being within the healthcare sector. They will price and build everything from renovations & complete tenant fit-out's to new construction works that can be valued anywhere from $150k-28M.
They are a union contractor with an in-house sheet metal shop (local 28), responsible for drafting, fabrication, and installation. They are a longstanding mechanical and construction management contractor with a solid reputation across New York, priding themselves on reliability, quality, and value.

Your new role

They are looking for a Chief Estimator that can lead the department and provide strategic insight across pre-construction as they continue to grow. On a day-to-day basis, you can expect the following:

• Manage and mentor the Pre-Construction / Estimating department to ensure timely completion of tasks associated with assigned project work.
  
• The ability to manage multiple projects at any one time.
  
• Provide strategic insight into diversifying their current project portfolio, trends in vendor pricing reporting directly to the President.
  
• Ability to interpret and read plans and blueprints.
  
• Manage RFP's RFI's - requesting clarification from the design team where necessary.
  
• Breakdown the scope of work and manage take-offs and the value engineering process.
  
• Proven managerial expertise overseeing junior Estimator.
  
• Ability to work through post bid requests - breakouts, to best and final.
  
• Identifies and mitigates project related risk.
  
• Meet with clients, architects, and owners and complete walk-throughs.
  
• Project handover to Project Management teams for constructability review.
  
• Compare vendor pricing and scope analysis.
  

What you'll need to succeed

In order to succeed in this position, the ideal candidate will have a strong background with a mechanical contractor in the local New York market with a minimum of 8 years' experience and having solid relationships with local vendors. Coming from a mechanical engineering degree is not essential but highly desired along with knowledge of Estimating software - Bluebeam, and Microsoft Suite. Also, having your OSHA 30 is advantageous.
