Web Developer

Position Summary

The Open Source Web Developer will join a team of developers designing and programming web-based database applications for the Division of Residential and Hospitality Services.

Duties in this role include maintaining and enhancing existing applications; creating interfaces and add-on applications for existing software; and development of new applications. The applicant will work with the team to determine client's business processes and application requirements, create user interface design and functional design, design tests, create applications that meet requirements and pass tests, and aid in training and deployment.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to completing a four-year college degree program; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in web development and design; proficiency with database application development using SQL; experience with a web development language such as PHP or Perl; proficiency with Unix/Linux operating systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

A strong background of object-oriented PHP development, particularly with an MVC framework. Experience working with modern version control such as GIT. Experience with Drupal and/or Magento is a plus. Familiarity with JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and front-end design tools.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, to interact with clients to design and build web applications; experience with all phases of the software development process, from design through implementation; familiarity with formal project management processes, test driven development, Agile development concepts, and strong verbal and written communication skills.
