Position Announcement

Visiting Assistant Professor, Painting and 2D Foundations

West Virginia University, School of Art and Design is seeking nominations and applications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor of Art, Painting and 2D Foundations. The position is a full time, 9-month appointment.

Responsibilities:

* Teach all levels of Painting: Introduction, Advanced, Senior Projects, and Graduate; Teach and

mentor in 2D Foundations. Teaching assignment is 3 courses per semester: 2 in Painting, 1 in 2D Foundations.

* Co-manage the Painting Program, studios, equipment, and budget.

* Mentor Graduate Teaching Assistants in 2D Foundations

* Continue professional and creative development sufficient to meet the expectations of a

Carnegie Research 1, land-grant University.

* Participate in committee assignments, professional service, and attract and maintain students.

Required Qualifications:

* MFA in studio art with an emphasis in painting

* Demonstrate achievement in teaching

* Independent teaching experience

* A strong record of exhibitions

* A proven working knowledge of oil and acrylic mediums

* Written and oral communication skills consistent with and complementary to the expectations

of a public research university

Preferred Qualifications:

* One (1) year teaching experience at the college or university level in a comprehensive

studio arts program

* Experience in attracting and maintaining quality graduate and undergraduate students

The School of Art and Design has an enrollment of 290 undergraduate and 25 graduate students, with 19 full-time and 5 part-time faculty.
