Visiting Assistant Professor of Practice, P-5 Education

The Department of Teacher Education at Cleveland State University is searching for active, culturally and academically diverse faculty of the highest caliber to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in P-5 education, advise students, supervise related clinical and field experiences for pre-service candidates, participate in college, department and program meetings. This is a one-year appointment. The position is renewable upon successful performance. The P-5 Teacher Education Program at CSU is a substantially field-based teacher education program that seeks to translate theory into practice and provide continuity of students' learning from classroom learning to field practices.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Earned master's degree or related field; and
  • Minimum of ten years of successful teaching experience in grades P-5, or equivalent.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Prior university teaching experience in planning teacher education curriculum;
  • Experience in teaching P-5 courses (especially teaching methods, integrated curriculum); Knowledge of and experience implementing Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP);
  • Working knowledge of early childhood assessment; experience supervising pre-service teacher candidates;
  • Experience collaborating with trans-disciplinary teams;
  • Demonstrated experience with racially, socio-economically, and/or linguistically diverse urban educational settings;
  • Ability to use technology meaningfully as a teaching/learning tool; and
  • Ability to contribute through teaching and/or service to the diversity, cultural sensitivity, and excellence of the academic community.
