Position Title: Youth Mentoring Specialist

Reports To: Extended Services Supervisor

Status: Non-exempt

Team: Immigration and Refugee Program/Lancaster Office

Location: Lancaster, PA

Primary Purpose:

The Youth Mentoring Specialist serves as the program lead for the Youth Mentoring Program. Many refugee youth and young adults arrive to the U.S. having experienced violence, family loss and separation or interruptions to schooling, among many other adverse experiences and require social, emotional, educational and vocational support to foster healthy integration. The Youth Mentoring Program supports refugee youth and young adults as they link with resources and processes aimed at strengthening their social, civic, academic and career prospects in the community through mentor matches and CWS-led group activities. This position aims to ensure timely delivery and documentation of services and compliance with program requirements as established by program funders.

Essential Duties:

• Conduct outreach to refugees and other ORR eligible populations as well as partners, sharing program information and logistics to recruit program participants.

• Complete eligibility assessment by reviewing documentation and determine needs for mentorship support.

• Complete enrollment and intake process with eligible clients, conducting an interview with each participating individual and with parents/guardians as applicable, to identify learning goals and review program requirements.

• Develop a self-sufficiency plan with each participating individual, outlining the goal(s) and pathway for achievement through mentorship support.

• Maintain client files containing a copy of intake and enrollment forms, self-sufficiency plan, proof of eligibility, case notes and supporting documentation aligning with goals and program enrollment.

• Coordinate with CWS staff and community volunteers to identify interpretation and translation supports as needed to assist in client enrollments and check-ins.

• Plan and manage the calendar of group activities and events throughout the grant cycle.

• Provide training and ongoing support to mentors, facilitating matches and conducting steady check-ins.

• Meet bi-monthly with eachparticipant and mentor to assess progress toward the achievement of goals and advise participants onovercomingany potentialobstacles, including any conflicts.

• Monitor program highlights and challenges, sharing updates with program supervisors, and regularly attending the quarterly Refugee Services Collaborative of Central Pennsylvania (RSCCP) meetings to highlight Youth Mentoring program services and initiatives.

• Create and maintain an in-house Excel tracking sheet to securely collect, manage and report on client participation and progress.

• Work closely with the Extended Services Supervisor to ensure adherence to program policies and procedures. In partnership with the Extended Services Supervisor, develop, implement, and evaluate process improvements intended to streamline and scale existing operations.

• Provide program updates and highlights to fellow team members during check-ins and staff meetings.

• Maintain timely and accurate case notes, documenting program support and activities. Maintain tracking logs of enrollments and outcomes, incorporating data into required grant funder reports.

Common Duties:

• Effectively coordinate and work in tandem with other service providers to assist refugee clients, avoid duplication of services, and maximize efficiency.

• Effectively use technology to maximize efficiency and quality of work during intake, needs assessments, and data entry.

• Advocate for equal access to services for refugees and immigrants.

• Keep informed about refugee and immigrant issues and available services to clients, using current information to better identify and serve refugee and immigrant clients.

• Attend weekly meetings with supervisor and other agency staff.

• Undertake other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years’ experience in refugee services or related field.

Experience: The ideal candidate will have previous experience in the field of direct services working with immigrant and refugee communities. Experience working with youth preferred. Candidates from refugee groups preferred. They will have a demonstrated commitment to excellence with a track record that includes close attention to detail, strong project coordination and problem-solving skills, strong communication skills, including in-person networking and writing skills, and a high degree of cultural competency.

Other Skills: English fluency is required. Fluency in Spanish, Arabic, Pashto, Dari, Swahili, and/or Kinyarwanda is preferred. The successful candidate must be computer literate, with proficiency in Microsoft Office and internet applications. Strong organizational and time management skills are required. Must have access to reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license. Must be able to keep a clean driving record and be over 21 years of age. Must be able to maintain a flexible schedule during weekdays to accommodate both early and later evening appointments as necessary.
