Under the general supervision of the Phlebotomy Training Supervisor, the Phlebotomy Trainer will coordinate, perform, and document training as needed. All BioReference policies will be followed for Privacy and OSHA for safety in the work Environment.

Responsibilities:

Presents approved Phlebotomy New Hire slide show presentation.
Assesses and monitors new hire Phlebotomy skills, knowledge, and technique.
Demonstrates and assists in the performance of needle safety (using arm block).
Reviews Customer Service and quality patient care
Reviews Phlebotomy daily work flow (opening/closing procedures).
Reviews HIPAA/PHI policies.
Reviews PPE procedures.
Reviews specimen collection and preparing procedures.
Demonstrates the use of equipment (thermometers/centrifuges).
Reviews daily log procedures (temperature recordings, decontamination, and specimen log).
Demonstrates the methods of various kits, containers, & speciality tubes (protection from light/frozen specimens (aliquots), timed testing (e.g. GTT/LTT).
Demonstrates packaging and shipping for Fed-Ex specialty kits (Gene Dx).
Demonstrates protocol for Chain of Custody testing.
Reviews safety and blood borne pathogens protocols.
Reviews policy for patient adverse reactions.
Demonstrates Fire Extinguisher inspection and user instructions.
Documents all areas of training on new Hire Training Checklist.
Reviews and documents all areas trainee needs improvement in.
Provides training surveys to new hires for feedback and review for areas of improvement (Submit to Training Manger for review and documentation.
Submits all training documents to Phlebotomy Supervisor/Manager for review.
Forwards documents to Phlebotomy Admin to enter into Phlebotomy shared drive.
Schedules re-trainings for needle safety and other re-trainings upon request
Performs other assignments or projects as requested by Training Manager.
Contributes to the overall enhancement of the training program.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum)
1. High School Diploma preferred
2. Phlebotomy Certificate preferred
3. Minimum 5 years Phlebotomy experience preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Light work of lifting and/or carrying objects less than 25 pounds
Responsible for occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects
WORKING CONDITIONS
Travel
Frequent contact with water (hand washing and cleaning), biohazardous body fluids, and hazardous chemicals

Sufficient noise and interruptions to cause distraction and stress

Hazardous working conditions in which individual is exposed to definite risk of bodily injury through contact with moving instrumentation, chemicals, and/or body fluids
