American Battery Solutions has a full-time opening for a Test Specialist.

Job Summary

The Test Specialist performs testing on lithium-ion cells, modules, and low/high voltage battery packs. A person in this position connects devices under test; operates and maintains lithium-ion battery test equipment; and collects and communicates test data to internal customers. The Test Specialist executes testing on battery products and supports testing services for the Validation, Systems, and Quality teams, and other parties requiring Test Lab services.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates and executes test plans. Completes test setups, test execution, test monitoring, data organization and collection, and post-test tear downs.
  • Provides data summaries, and interfaces with internal Validation Engineering and System Engineering teams (and others as needed) for both internal and external testing programs.
  • Operates and maintains lithium-ion cell, module, and battery pack charge/discharge test equipment and environmental test equipment from a variety of equipment manufacturers by applying experience and assisting with maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of test equipment.
  • Assists in preparing and executing test controller scripts.
  • Creates and/or develops test methods and publishes supporting documentation.
  • Contributes to the organization and safety of the test lab through cleanliness, 5S activities, safety precautions, lab improvement/process developments, and minor test equipment repairs.
  • Expands professional and technical knowledge by attending educational seminars and conferences, reviewing professional publications, and establishing personal networks.
  • Supports activities toward the operation and maintenance of the Test Lab.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications
  • Minimum of two (2) years of applicable test lab experience; preferably with low/high voltage lithium-ion batteries.
  • Capable of executing test set-ups and testing with little to no supervision.
  • Skilled with operating and maintaining battery charge/discharge testing equipment and environmental chambers from multiple manufacturers.
  • Willing to work hands-on with batteries and test equipment.
  • Effective communicator, capable of concisely presenting highly technical test data to internal and external customers.
  • Educated on common lithium-ion cell, module, and battery pack test certifications.
  • Capable of carefully maneuvering large battery packs with the proper safety standards and support.
  • Self-motivated problem solver, pays attention to the details, challenges the status quo, takes ownership for assignments, and strives for continuous improvement.
  • Contributes to team growth by collaborating with cross-function teams and completing projects in a timely manner.
  • Abides by safety standards and protocols.

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office equipment.
  • Ability to adjust focus, especially due to concentration on a computer screen.
  • May need to lift and carry up to 30 pounds and/or position the body to reach items on the floor/below knee level or reach overhead.
  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move about in industrial environments, and on uneven terrain.
  • Works in a temperature-controlled office environment, with occasional work in outdoor weather conditions, and in industrial environments.
  • The noise level in the work environment can be moderately loud.
