Job Summary/Basic Function
The Department of Art & Design needs temporary part-time Instructors for courses in Interactive & Graphic Design, including:

  • Web Design
  • Motion Design
  • Experience Design
  • Package Design
  • Typography
  • Branding
  • Visual Communication
  • Computer Art



Temporary, part-time instructor responsible for teaching a variety of topics in Interactive & Graphic Design. In addition, the instructor will write and organize curriculum, prepare lectures and demonstrations, lead discussions, evaluate student performance, grade projects, and submit final grades through MAX.

The purpose of this posting is to generate a pool of qualified faculty. Applications submitted will be reviewed on an as needed basis based on enrollment. Anyone meeting the qualifications may be contacted for an interview and potentially hired when a need exists. Required Qualifications
  • MFA in Graphic Design or equivalent experience.
  • Expertise in Adobe software.
  • Evidence of ability to successfully teach diverse student populations.
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication skills.
  • Evidence of a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Successful interview.
  • Successful teaching demonstration.
  • Successful completion of three background checks.


Preferred Qualifications
  • MFA in Graphic Design or related discipline.
  • Prior college-level teaching experience.
  • Prior experience in the design industry.


Job Description
EFFECTIVE TEACHING AND PERFORMANCE OF PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Temporary, part-time instructor responsible for teaching a variety of topics in Interactive & Graphic Design. CONTINUING SCHOLARLY GROWTH AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:
In addition to teaching, there is an expectation for scholarship and service commensurate with the assignment.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:
The Department of Art and Design, in the College of School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, is comprised of 12 faculty members, 3 support staff, 235 students, and offers programs in fine arts, graphic design, and art education, with minors in art history and studio art. At the undergraduate level students can earn a BA, BFA, BDES and BSE. Graduate level students can earn an MEd in Art Education.

Essential Functions
Working Conditions and Physical Effort – (Essential Functions)
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/classroom environment.
  • Ability to:
    • sit or stand while teaching.
    • speak clearly.
    • communicate via writing exceptionally well
    • understand verbal communication (read and understand verbal messages).
    • use construction tools safety.
    • move to and from campus buildings, offices, classrooms and stage areas.
    • climb ladders.
    • stoop or bend to pick things up.


  • Must be able to lift/pull/push up to 10 pounds without assistance.
    • lift student paper bundles, small boxes, scene shop equipment and materials.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift/pull/push heavier items with assistance.
  • Teach courses face-to-face at the higher education level using lectures, demonstrations, class discussion, using online tools and/or equipment and/or other appropriate tools appropriate modes of education delivery.
  • Able to record and calculate grades, prepare course outline and syllabus, develop course schedules, engage in the selection of appropriate textbooks and other teaching aids necessary to the delivery of instruction.
  • Use computer for email, obtain information on websites, prepare class documents, grade papers, submit final grades online and other duties related to teaching and advising students and serving the department, college, university and community.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risks.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and mouse.
