Job Description

Technical Writers are responsible for creating, editing, formatting, organizing, and maintaining content produced for Telecommunication Consulting Subscription Services (CSS) for network and security operations. They work closely with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in various facets of the CSS organization to generate documents and document templates that drive quality and consistency. Technical Writers handle content across a wide range of subjects, including software installation and configuration, network and security monitoring, Information Technology (IT) operations, and contract-related deliverables and reports. Some examples of documents produced by Technical Writers include processes, procedures, work instructions, guides, runbooks, and assessment reports.

Technical Writers work under the direction of the Lead Technical Writer.

Responsibilities

Content Development

  • Create, organize, update, and maintain internal and customer-facing documentation and related templates.
  • Develop and maintain documentation in the following subject areas:
    • document creation, management, and maintenance
    • document approval streams
    • software installation and configuration
    • data monitoring
    • network architecture and design
    • configuration management
    • disaster recovery
    • any other documentation required by Telecommunication CSS.
  • Work with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to obtain information required to create documentation and follow up with SMEs to ensure accurate documents are being released.
Content Management
  • Advocate standardized documentation practices across the CSS organization.
  • Work with stakeholders to meet project milestones, including document structuring, planning, and delivery.
  • Maintain an organized content structure that houses documents and knowledge base articles.
  • Provide periodic and ad-hoc status updates to immediate supervisor and upper management, including documentation progress and estimated time required to complete assignments.
Content Delivery and Quality Assurance
  • Adhere to established CSS documentation standards, including stylistic/formatting practices, document automation, and content quality.
  • Follow the documentation delivery plan for all internal and customer-facing deliverables.
  • Follow and advocate accepted documentation best practices in document creation, peer review, and document delivery to customers.
  • Perform Quality Assurance (QA) reviews of all outgoing documentation.
  • Effectively communicate with team members, SMEs, and Telecommunication management to ensure timely delivery of quality documentation.
  • Simultaneously deliver multiple high-priority documentation projects as needed.
  • Maintain a flexible work schedule that allows for addition of new assignments and modification of existing deadlines to ensure timely delivery of quality documentation.
Knowledge Sharing
  • Actively participate in daily sync-ups and knowledge sharing sessions with the Technical Writing Team.
  • Search for and introduce new ideas to peer Technical Writers for improving documentation efficiency.
  • Collaborate with Telecommunication CSS project teams to share knowledge and promote best practices for content drafting.
Personal Training and Development
  • Perform required security and compliance training (e.g., Security Awareness, Code of Business Conduct) and apply those principles to the performance of daily tasks.
  • Perform self-development activities required to maintain technical expertise and/or professional certifications.
  • Seek out solutions to common document-related problems.
  • Stay informed about the latest tools and technologies available to enhance documentation.
Qualifying Experience and Attributes

Technical Writers must have at least five (5) years of professional experience writing technical documents. They must have strong writing skills and possess the ability to take highly technical information and make it accessible to an audience with or without a technical background. Technical Writers, in addition to being able to create and format documents, must also be able to create and maintain templates, as well as maintain an organized structure for internal and customer-facing content.
  • At minimum five (5) years of experience as a Technical Writer.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver quality documentation under tight deadlines and evolving objectives.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with demonstrated ability to work effectively under minimal supervision.
  • Ability and willingness to research and obtain the necessary information and/or skills to complete the task at hand. Must be a quick learner who can work independently with minimal instruction.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of product/systems development lifecycle.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Visio and Office Suite.
  • Working knowledge of file version control (manual and within the O365 Cloud).
  • Knowledge of and hands-on experience with writing and publication tools.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and must be able to pass background check(s).
Preferred Experience and Attributes:
  • Some knowledge of network security, Information Technology (IT) and/or data communication.
  • Interest in producing and maintaining standardized, accurate, and effective IT, network, and security documentation (e.g., runbooks, configuration guidelines and disaster recovery plans).
