Job Summary

Serves as lead engineer (EIC) in the update, planning and support of Radio TV Service and The Media School and Cuban Center SD/HD/UHD digital video production facilities. Supervises the activities of full-time technical production staff, temporary/part-time staff, and provides guidance during classroom studio, remote, and field projects. Assists in the technical planning, establishes technical procedures and methods, and evaluates and recommends equipment for repair, replacement and recommended purchase.

Primary duties focus on technical engineering of Radio TV production, Media School lab, and Cuban Center recorded productions, remote, field and post productions, instructional productions, Media School lab and studio productions, and includes analysis and problem solving for split-second decisions concerning signal quality.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in broadcast engineering and two years of broadcast engineering experience.

Possess a valid driver's license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University.

Significant experience with Windows network systems. Experience in design, integration, operation, and maintenance of HD digital video facilities. Good mechanical skills and the ability to troubleshoot issues. Demonstrated understanding of student production procedures and ability to work closely with media instructors. Excellent interpersonal skills and a customer service orientation. Excellent ability to effectively communicate and exchange information with a wide diversity of individuals. Strong organizational and multitasking skills including ability to manage multiple priorities and deal with project deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

Certification as SBE CBT (Certified Broadcast Technologist) level or above. Three years of broadcast engineering experience. Knowledge regarding maintenance of video server/tape machines, broadcast video and audio server standards, and computer editing systems. Operational knowledge of broadcast production switchers, routers and character generators.

Working Conditions / Demands

The position involves frequently changing priorities while managing multiple projects and productions and maintaining 24/7 broadcast operation - may require working some weekends and holidays.

Physical requirements of this position include occasional lifting or handling of equipment weighing 10 to 50 pounds; and working directly with students, instructors, and support staff in classroom productions support for extended periods of time, multiple times per day, and during evening classes. This position also requires manual dexterity in the set-up and operation of equipment plus the installation of cases, cabling, connectors, etc., and requires signal analysis and system troubleshooting in a complex routing environment.
