Alliant Energy has an outstanding opportunity for an Apprentice or Journey Level Travel Line Mechanic. Our crews play a meaningful role in providing consistent, reliable service to homes and businesses within our territory. The Travel Line Mechanic will construct, dismantle, maintain, operate, patrol and repair de-energized and energized, overhead and underground transmission and distribution lines and all associated equipment to serve and maintain service to electrical customers. This position can be filled at the journey level or as an apprentice (where we will teach you the trade!).

Our crews are made up of experienced leads, journey leveland apprentices, are supported by strong leadership and have a trusted commitment to safety and ethics. We have a dedicated safety team that supports our crews and each employee is provided training and development to succeed, empowering them to grow and advance. Alliant Energy offers excellent benefits and competitive pay. This vital role has four years of on the job paid training before being fully certified. You will work with our team to do new construction, maintain existing facilities and respond to outages.

• This position isresponsible for taking after-hours emergency calls, responding to outages and trouble calls on the distribution system and customer services.
• This vacancywill be filled at an apprentice or journey level.
• This position is posted internal and external.
• This position may participate in a Boot Camp and on-the-job training may take place in multiple sites throughout IP&L geographic territory. Travel, overnight lodging, and expenses will be handled in accordance with bargaining agreement.

Job Qualifications
For Journey Level Candidates:

• Equivalent to four-year formal apprenticeship training such as the I.B.E.W.
• Lineman Apprenticeship Course.
• Journeyman lineman certificate or equivalent, CPR and First Aid.
• May be required to be certified to apply herbicides.
• 4 or more years experience in line construction, operation, maintenance work or equivalent.

Other Requirements:

• Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License prior to the end of trial period

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Must have mechanical skills, ability to work in a team setting, capable communicator
• Ability to be courteous and tactful with the public
• Will be required to work irregular hours during storm emergencies and as needed

*Note: This job is covered by the Department of Transportation regulations on drug and alcohol testing (CFR 49, Parts 40 and 199), and is subject to drug testing according to said regulations.
