Overview

The System Director, GME and UME, is a highly visible position that is essential to Tower Health as an academic healthcare system for achieving its academic missions. This position reports directly to the Senior Vice President/ Chief Academic Officer/Designated Institutional Official (DIO), Tower Health and has 6 direct reports. This position will be responsible for 1) refining and implementing the strategic imitative of standardizing and harmonizing GME and UME policies and procedures across Tower Health, 2) operational oversight of the Tower Health Office of GME and UME, 3) assisting the DIO and the GMEC to ensure all residency and fellowship programs in substantial compliance with the requirements of the ACGME or other accreditation bodies. As the lead Institutional Coordinator for all the ACGME-accredited programs at Tower Health, this position will be assisting the DIO with correspondences with the ACGME, developing agreements for residents and fellows, serving as the technical expert/leader in the ACGME Annual Data System, monitoring any changes in the ACGME Institutional and Program Requirements, supporting the GMEC Subcommittees, and developing GMEC meeting agenda and minutes. The System Director, GME and UME, will be leading the annual budget process for GME and UME. In addition, this position supervises the GME Controller in monitoring program budgets and expenses and supporting the filing needs for the CMS Cost Report.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Chief Academic Officer/DIO in collaborating with local and/or national academic institutions to develop and support appropriate GME and UME programs and activities.
  • Assist the Chief Academic Officer/DIO in developing, negotiating, and managing all affiliation agreements with external academic institutions
  • Work closely with the GME Office members and Program leaderships to ensure the good standing of institutional and program accreditation status by monitoring annual program evaluation and program quality improvement action plans
  • Direct the Tower Health Office of GME/UME to achieve its goals and objectives
  • As the key operation leader and Institutional Coordinator, organize or support the Institutional or Program Site Visits including CLER conducted by ACGME
  • As the key operational leader, organize GMEC meeting schedule and supervise other team members to draft meeting agenda and minutes
  • As the key operational leader, organize the Annual Institutional Review (AIR) and supports developing the executive summary of AIR.
  • Serve as a resource to all GME/UME stakeholders (i.e. Hospital leadership, THMG leadership, department leadership, Finance, Human Resources, Nursing Administration, etc)
  • Serve as a key leader in supporting the diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in the organization
  • Provide direct supervisions and guidance to and complete annual evaluations for the direct reports
  • Works closely with the GME Controller to provides the oversight of the financial operations for the GME programs including developing and managing program budgets, negotiating external contracts, and tracking expenses.
  • Assist Finance in accurately completing the CMS cost report for GME reimbursement
  • Develop staff development strategies and plan for program coordinators and directors
  • Promote Tower Health and its GME programs
  • Work closely with the Human Resources and Finance to review and update salaries and benefits for residents and fellows
  • Work closely with Legal to review Resident/Fellow Agreement annually

Qualifications

Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's Degree preferred
