Make a bigger difference

At The Jewish Board, we don't just make a difference - we make a bigger difference as we serve 45,000 New Yorkers every year. Join our dedicated team that's been helping communities across New York City for almost 150 years and see just how big of a difference you can make.

Reasons you'll love working with us:

  • If you have a particular age range or population you're interested in working with, you can find your niche here. Our clients and staff are as diverse as the city we work in, and include people of all cultures, religions, races, gender expressions, and sexual orientations.
  • We're committed to supporting your career development by encouraging mobility and advancement across different program types and jobs.
  • With 70 locations throughout the five boroughs, you can work close to where you live.
  • You'll receive ongoing support through high-quality supervision, specialized trainings from our Continuing Education team, and an education benefit.

How you can make a bigger difference:

The Therapeutic Nursery School serves children ages three to five years who are presenting with developmental delays, communication problems, social/emotional/behavioral difficulties, or attention and learning deficits. A highly structured small group classroom (8:1:2) helps them build self-esteem, develop relationships, and become effective learners. Individualized mandated therapies, including speech and language, occupational, physical, play, and music, are provided. An interdisciplinary team approach, inclusive of the family, promotes best practices for understanding the child's challenges and strengths.

The Substitute Teacher is responsible for assisting the core teaching team in the management, care and overall treatment of a group of developmentally delayed preschool children. Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting the educational team in maintaining a therapeutic milieu within the classroom
  • Filling in for any absent Assistant Teacher, Teacher Aide or 1:1 Paraprofessional on a given day (on a short-term basis)
  • Joining a classroom when a Head Teacher needs to go to a Department of Education CPSE/CSE meeting, work on reports or meet with a parent
  • Assisting on class trips
  • Other duties as assigned

The Jewish Board is currently looking for talented Substitute Teachers of all cultures, religions, races, and gender expressions with the following qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
  • Prior experience in an early childhood and/or special education setting is required.
  • Basic computer skills required.

If you join us, you'll have these great benefits:

  • Flexible schedule

  • Paid Supervision with an LCSW towards clinical licensure
  • 15 agency holidays
  • Affordable and high-quality dental/vision plans
  • Tuition assistance and educational loan forgiveness

  • 403(b) retirement benefits and a pension
  • Flexible spending accounts for health and transportation
  • 27/7 Accessible Employee Assistance Program
