Position Summary

Under the direction of the Assistant Dean of Students, the Student Engagement Coordinator will serve as the departments primary support person to the GSSW student community, focused on the Denver Campus MSW program, but also serving distance programs in the Four Corners (Durango), and Western Colorado (Glenwood Springs), and online MSW@Denver students across the nation, as appropriate. The Student Engagement Coordinator has direct responsibility for: organizing student engagement opportunities and co/extra-curricular programming for GSSW students; overseeing important student-facing events such as new student orientation; serving as the primary adviser and liaison to GSSWs student led organizations; managing student-facing communications; supervising student employees; and other projects and events as assigned.

Essential Functions

Administration of Student Engagement Programming

  • Create, support, and deliver culturally responsive programming (both virtual and in-person), targeting student support and persistence for all GSSW students. Ensure all engagement activities are inclusive and aligned to the core tenets of universal design.
  • Oversee the coordination and implementation of multiple new student orientations (up to 300 two-year and advanced standing) for Denver Campus. Support orientation efforts for Four Corners, MSW@Denver, and Western Colorado programs as necessary.
  • Lead student services data-hub for orientation planning and related needs, including regularly pulling reports from Slate and Banner for the Assistant Dean for Students, and other student-facing staff.
  • Manage and support GSSW student organizations, and their faculty advisers, including oversight of student organization budgets and expenditures, and developing/maintaining student organization trainings and documentation.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Dean of Students and other GSSW stakeholders on strategies for community building between students enrolled in the Denver Campus, Four Corners, MSW@Denver, and Western Colorado programs, as well as strategies to increase GSSW student engagement in broader DU initiatives and events.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of student-facing events at GSSW, including but not limited to: orientations, student organization events, commencement-related celebrations, and community service days.
  • Manage student-facing communications and communication platforms for current students (including Canvas, ReGroup, DU Portfolio, building bulletin boards, GSSW Current Student Facebook group, etc.). Collaborate with the GSSW Marketing and Communication, admissions teams, and other GSSW staff teams as needed.
  • Work with GSSW Marketing and Communication to update the student service pages of the GSSW website as needed. Support maintenance of the GSSW Student Resource Portal content and user administration, to ensure operational efficiencies, and ensure student engagement information is up-to-date.
  • Collaborate with GSSW teams and stakeholders, including academic affairs, career services, program directors, professional advising, and registrar, to support relevant student programming/information sessions as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Supervisory Duties: This position supervises student employees.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Proficient use of computer applications, including Microsoft Office suite;
    • Ability to build relationships and work with and across multiple, diverse audiences;
    • Experience using/ability to quickly learn DU-specific platforms (e.g. Banner, Canvas, Slate, Concur, ReGroup, Portfolio, Zoom webinars, etc.)
    • Experience supporting and willingness to use social media platforms (e.g. Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.);
    • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills;
    • A commitment to inclusive excellence and experience working with diverse communities;
    • Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple projects at once and on time;
    • Experience coordinating and leading events of various sizes and in multiple modalities (e.g. virtual webinars, in- person gatherings, etc.);
    • Skills in organizing resources and establishing priorities;
    • Ability to analyze data and develop reports;
    • Ability to take initiative, exercise good judgment, and achieve program goals in alignment to GSSW and DU vision and values;
    • Experience using/ability to quickly learn accessibility and universal design;
    • Knowledge of student development theories;
    • Knowledge of NASW Code of Ethics and application to social work education;
    • Experience using/ability to quickly learn FERPA, HIPPA and other confidentiality laws.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelors degree from an accredited institution, or 2-3 years of experience in a student support role.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Three to four years of experience working in Higher Education/Student Affairs in a direct student support role.
    • Experience with online learning. Experience supporting student leadership development.

    Working Environment

    Standard office environment, M-F 8-4:30

    Physical Activities

    Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period.
    Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs. with assistance.

    Work Schedule
    Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

    Salary Grade Number:
    The salary grade for the position is 7.

    Salary Range:
    The salary range for this position is $24.75-$26.56

    The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
