Direct Hire-Sr. Systems Engineer Position available in Rome, NY

Overview:

Consistent with our client's mission of providing our members the right financial services to live life, dream big and achieve financial success, the Senior Systems Administrator will provide technical design, planning, implementation, and the highest level of performance tuning and recovery procedures for mission critical enterprise systems. Serves as a technical expert in the area of system administration for complex operating systems. This includes recommending the redesign and configuration of operating systems and system applications. Investigates and analyzes feasibility of system requirements and develops system specifications. Identifies methods, solutions, and provides project leadership and management in order to provide a high level of service to the customers of the department.

Purpose:

  • Supports the administration and operation of MTS policies and programs that support and further the goals of the credit union. Works collaboratively to maintain efficient, professional procedures to enhance the current infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoots hardware and software problems to provide maximum up time and most efficient use of systems, in compliance with all regulations and standards. Assists and implements new solutions after hours and on weekends as needed to reduce the impact during production hours.
  • Supports the department in implementing the strategy established by management.

  • Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Designs, Manages and Operates server and storage infrastructure (VMWare, Azure, Physical)
  • Responsible for Active Directory forest and Azure Active Directory Tenant
  • Provide documentation and technical specifications to IT staff for planning and implementing new or upgrades of IT infrastructure
  • Establishes guidelines and methods for the installation and management of the server operating systems.
  • Ensures high availability and acceptable levels of performance of mission critical computer resources.
  • Develops procedures to maintain security and protect systems, Develops procedures, programs and documentation for backup and restoration of host operating systems and host-based applications.
  • Responsible for ensuring proper and secure backups of all systems and data
  • Develops procedures to maintain security and protect systems from unauthorized use, acts of nature and user abuse.
  • Lead the systems team on day-to-day operations and act as project manager for select projects
  • Mentors / guides System Administrator I and System Administrator II
  • Stays current with technological developments in systems administration technology.
  • Assists in the design, development, and implementation of disaster recovery services.
  • Applies superior troubleshooting skills on all tickets received from Tier 1 and Tier 2 technicians in a timely fashion.
  • Assists in incident management and works to resolve problems in a timely fashion with thorough and follow up with end users to confirm problems have been resolved.
  • This position will be responsible for creating and modifying existing or nonexistent procedures for any incidents that don't currently have one.
  • Project Management: Works effectively as a resource on projects as assigned by the Manager, Member Technology Infrastructure.
  • Requires the ability to prioritize and handle multiple work tracks at the same time.
  • Documentation: Documents all relevant information regarding policies, procedures and information on MTS tasks. Performs documentation and tracking of all requests to department.
  • Change Management: Follows all change management processes and procedures as required and makes recommendations for improvement to the Change Management process.
  • Training: Is required to maintain a strong level of expertise throughout the calendar year, as well as, a knowledge of new technologies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Reports To:

    This position reports directly to the Manager, Member Technology Infrastructure.

    Qualifications:
  • EDUCATION:
  • Candidate should have completed a B.S. Degree in computer science or related degree.
  • MCP, VCP, or Azure/M365 certificate preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • EXPERIENCE: Minimum 5-7 years' experience with computer hardware, software, network systems, and telecommunications preferred.
  • Experienced in VMWare, Azure and Veeam
  • Experienced in creating and managing Active Directory and Group Policy
  • Experienced in administrating storage systems
  • HOURS: Must be able to work odd hours and on call as needed to provide support for production systems. Will be required to mitigate production impact by performing design, implementation and configuration work on assigned projects during off hours and on weekends.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to lift items up to 75 Pounds. Must climb ladders and be able to work sitting on ground.
  • OTHER: Valid Driver's License and automobile required
