About the Role

In this role, you will support our distribution centers by driving our Supply Chain strategic roadmap through a diversified approach of engineering principles and practices to successfully maximize productivity, quality, and service. You will need to be Customer Curious by leveraging engineering techniques to establish methods for maximizing optimization with a focus on productivity improvement that positively impacts our business and customers. You will create a culture and environment where teams are inspired to creatively take risks in search of diverse ideas for improving operational process efficiencies

What You'll Do

  • Identifies and defines requirements for solutions to internal/external client fulfillment needs
  • Analyzes internal or external client data to determine order profiles, storage media application, product slotting, velocity, SKU affinities, and ABC analysis
  • Assists in the sales process by supporting the solutions team's response to RFPs including developing materials and presenting to potential clients
  • Develops AutoCAD layouts that include engineering business best practices and lessons learned
  • Acts as a subject matter expert when collaborating with other engineering team members to ensure designs are supported with data and calculations and on material handling equipment, storage media selection, process design and preferred methods of operating
  • Identifies risks and mitigation plans to reduce exposure and risk on project; communicates such to leadership; serves as liaison between customer and Gap for design projects
  • Participates in scope confirmation sessions with client and conducts gap analysis to ensure issues are resolved; identifies changes to the scope when they occur and provides necessary documentation and escalation
  • Responsible for detailed engineering on new business awards to take the design from conceptualization to full detailed design ready for implementation by performing data analyses, providing material specification, managing the client RFP process, and generating final detailed, engineered layout that is integrated with the facility operational flows
  • ​Prepares engineering documents to describe solution and detailed operating concepts such as storage and shipping capacity, zoning, slotting, waving, etc.
  • Facilitates reviews with key work stream leads including engineering peers, PdM, GapTech and operations; may include presentation to senior leaders
  • Participates on a team responsible for the implementation of new business by developing operational strategies (put-away, waving, picking, zoning, slotting, etc.) and preparing the WMS configuration file with all needed locations slotting/zoning /sequencing /put-away and picking profiles for the facility
  • Manages material handling vendors through schedule, permitting, installation, commissioning, punch lists, etc.
  • Validates all equipment installation, including necessary testing of automated material handling equipment
  • Effectively communicates relevant project information to leadership and customers
  • Informally mentors and leads less experienced engineers in order to develop their understanding of complex distribution design center design
  • Researches and maintains knowledge of emerging industry practice
  • Other duties as required and assigned

  • Technical knowledge of distribution operations, process flow analysis, network modeling, DC design and material handling systems
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to negotiate and build consensus across multiple stakeholders and functions
  • Ability to speak with candor to drive business results
  • Ability to assess relatively complex situations and analyze data to make judgments and recommend solutions
