Tuknik Government Services, a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking an experienced Sr. Network Engineer with a Public Trust Clearance to support TGS and our government customer at Carlsbad, NM.

Job Overview:
Provides in-depth and independent technical guidance, services, advice, and recommendations to the IT Operations Manager and federal staff. Performs supervisory duties of systems administrators that are maintaining DOE systems, networks, and connectivity. In addition, performs duties across specialized IT functions, which may include cybersecurity, network architecture, project management, data management, systems administration, and policy planning. These tasks include serving as the lead for projects, tasks, working groups, and daily activities with responsibility for analyzing, managing, or performing work necessary to plan, design, develop, acquire, document, test, implement, integrate, maintain, or modify systems and services. Serves as second and third-tier support for user support, SharePoint, systems, applications, and network issues. Develop and maintain high-level cybersecurity awareness for the organization, maintains a general awareness and understanding of cybersecurity and security concerns, such as the processing environment and architecture, training certification, trends, and technical problems.

Essential Functions, Responsibilities & Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Installing, configuring, testing, and documenting the equipment/network systems according to the approved project plan or Baseline Change Proposal (BCP).
  • Leads the performance of day-to-day networking tasks to ensure network reliability, availability, and serviceability within minimal interruption.
  • Provides technical support, responds to tickets from the users, analyzes and solves reported network problems.
  • Manages the day-to-day operations of DOE computers/servers by monitoring system performance, configuration, maintenance, and repair.
  • Performs patching on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis to ensure all systems are patched to the level specified by the vendor, security analyst, vulnerability, or other sources.
  • Comply with the IRM Privileged Rules of Behavior (PRoB) including the guidance in the standard RoB relative to both standard and elevated user access rights
  • Participate in IRM weekly team meetings and/or other meetings as directed
  • Complete EMCBC training and briefings as directed
  • Travel as requested

Work Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Candidate must possess 2 years of experience in performing IT-related customer support including, but not limited to, help desk, NOC center, service, desk, and/or remote support
  • Experience in IT/help desk management systems such as Remedy, ZenDesk, and/or Web Help Desk to track, manage, and report on workload to management/supervisors
  • Knowledge of DOE Order 205.1B Department of Energy Cyber Security Program and NIST 800-53 experience including implementation methods is highly desirable
  • Candidate must possess 4 or more years of experience with the administration of the following:
  • Firewall configuration/administration in a Wide-Area Network (WAN) environment.
  • Public and private Domain Name Servicing (DNS) configuration and administration
  • Extensive knowledge of IPv4 (exposure to IPv6) including subnetting is a must
  • Network administration/configuration via all layers of the OSI and IP models are required
  • Layer 2-3 network administration with experience in Cisco and/or Palo Alto is highly desirable.
  • Network transmission technologies, including wireless protocols. Experience in design and optimization of physical networks, including both copper and fiber media
  • Microsoft Windows network architecture including AD, DHCP, GP, and DNS
  • Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware including but not limited to McAfee EPO/Endpoint Protection
  • Microsoft Exchange E-Mail archiving, migration, and data compression applications
  • Requires a bachelor's degree in Computer Science and/or related field or 12 years of relevant IT experience that includes 6 years of Systems/Network administration
  • The substitution of education for relevant experience is in addition to the minimum of 6 years of relevant experience required for this labor category and must be approved by the government on a case-by-case basis.
  • A maximum of 3 years of education may be substituted for relevant experience.

Working Environment & Conditions
This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
This position is primarily indoors, consistent with a standard office position and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. The incumbent is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The workload may require the incumbent to sit for extended periods of time. The incumbent must be able to read, do simple math calculations and withstand moderate amounts of stress. The incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
