The University of Miami Health Systems has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Central Sterilization Technician in the Central Sterile Processing Department. The incumbent decontaminates, operationally checks, assembles, sterilizes, and distributes surgical instrumentation, implants, supplies, and equipment for the OR, Nursing Units, and Ancillary Departments. The Sr. Central Supply Technician also maintains documentation related to these duties and assists in the training of other Sterile Processing Technicians. They also operate and maintain sterilization equipment, decontamination equipment, and computer systems related to these duties.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A graduate of a Vocational Training Program in Central Sterile Processing required or a Surgical Tech program required
  • Certification by governing Central Processing organizations IAHCSMM or CBSPD or NBSTSA or NCCT
  • As a Surgical Tech you must have at least 1 year of work experience
  • Must have 2 years of experience as Central Sterile Technician.
  • High School Diploma
  • BCLS for Healthcare Personnel
  • Central Sterile Processing Diploma
  • Any combination of relevant education, work experience, and / or certifications will be considered.


Job Functions: Assembles and packages surgical procedure instrument sets, following protocols established by electronic count sheets, professional standards, and other documentation from a variety of surgical specialties under minimal supervision. Operationally check instrumentation for functionality and cleanliness. Decontaminate surgical procedure instrument sets, following protocols established by IFU's (Instructions for Use), professional standards, and other documentation from a variety of surgical specialties under minimal supervision. Decontaminates and operationally check patient's equipment for the OR and ancillary departments according to established protocols through the competent utilization of a variety of detergents, disinfectants, and machinery. Maintain appropriate records of receipt and disinfection of key instruments and equipment. Dispense sterile supplies to appropriate locations in the OR, ER, Labor & Delivery and other locations. Maintain sterile inventory, stock rotation, and quality assurance. Maintain documentation related to material dispensation including logs, schedules, and electronic systems.
