Position Summary

As a member of the professional staff, contributes a high level of knowledge and skill in Accounting to support department and/or function objectives. This individual will work under the general supervision of the Accounting Manager.

Specific Job Summary (describe the nature and purpose of the position)

The Senior Accountant role is part of the Consolidated Accounting team within the Centralized Resort & Association Operations Accounting team, primarily supporting the Ancillary businesses. This position is responsible for the monthly close process and preparation of balance sheet account reconciliations for all MVW brands resorts, along with participating in the review process for the reconciliations and journal entries prepared by the staff accountants on the team.

Core work activities include:

  • Preparation and Review of reconciliations and journal entries
  • Reviewing consolidated audit schedules throughout the year to prepare for annual audits
  • Ensuring compliance with accounting policies and procedures
  • Driving process improvement to ensure efficiency and scalability
  • Assisting in the development of the staff accountants on the team

Expected Contributions

  • Contributes to team, department and/or business results by performing the following types of tasks: journal entry compliance, adherence to account reconciliation policy, and partnering with Finance and Accounting teams to ensure organizational success.
  • Assists more senior associates in achieving business results by:
    • Utilizing technical knowledge and skills to enhance business processes
    • Allocating own time effectively to meet goals in a manner that does not disadvantage other associates or groups
    • Engages in complex problem solving to resolve new and ongoing issues
  • Demonstrates an awareness of personal strengths and areas for improvement and acts independently to improve and increase skills and knowledge.

Specific Expected Contributions

Accounting and Controls
  • Manage month-end close process ensuring timelines are met, all required entries are recorded, and potential delays/issues are properly communicated and addressed with Leaders.
  • Ensure balance sheet accounts are supported by appropriate documentation and comply with policies.
  • Prepare data and information for Centralized Audit team related to annual consolidated external audit, including required schedules and ad-hoc requests.
  • Ability to interpret standard GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act).
Managing and Business Partnerships
  • Manages projects, sets priorities and measurable objectives, monitors, and reports on the process, progress, and results.
  • Partners with Accounting manager to respond to, solve, and make decisions on business requests that have department impact and/or moderate risk. Presents alternative solutions to business issues by leveraging personal knowledge and consideration of the broader organization.
  • Responsible for producing high-level work and/or business results. Provides leadership to non-management staff.
  • Participate in a positive work environment with collaborative relationships that encourage others and celebrate successes.
  • Ability to work under pressure in deadline-oriented environment while managing multiple tasks.
  • Superior communication skills, including the ability to effectively report to senior management in a verbal and written format
Candidate Profile

Successful candidates should possess knowledge and experience and demonstrate strong leadership and relationship skills.

Usually a professional position with general knowledge in Accounting. College degree and/or related experience typically required.

Specific Candidate Profile (the education, experience, skills, and attributes that are important for this position)

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting preferred; 3-5 years related work experience in finance and accounting; or,
  • High School Diploma/GED and equivalent work experience
  • Developed analytical and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft and Excel
