Position Summary

The Sorter works as quality control line workers by sorting through recyclable materials and trash from the recycling stream. The Sorters is responsible to ensure unacceptable materials are removed from recycling so that recyclable materials are acceptable.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Sort and segregate recoverable materials (e.g., aluminum, plastic, glass, paper, etc.) from incoming waste.
• Deposit recoverable materials safely and efficiently into appropriate chute.
• Assist other sorters on an as-needed basis with heavy or bulky items.
• Identify trash and classes of recyclable material on moving belts.
• Pick quickly and efficiently off the line, using both hands.
• Follow all Company safety policies and procedures, including stopping the conveyor belt in emergency situations.
• Inspect incoming loads for unacceptable waste; remove unacceptable items as required.
• Communicate with equipment operators regarding incoming loads of special waste or other loads that require special attention.
• Clean work station
• Remove material wrapped around shafts in the screens using knives and pliers.
• Sweep and shovel building debris.
• Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education and Experience

• Must be able to lift 10 lbs
• Stand for up to 3 hours at a time, not exceeding 10 hours a day
• Be able to follow simple directions in English
• Sorters are expected to complete these tasks safely, respectfully, and punctually.
