Position Summary

Red Lion Controls (https://www.redlion.net) is seeking a Software Test Automation Engineer with experience of test design, development and maintenance of software products on Windows, Linux, and Web technology based platforms. We are seeking an experienced Software Test Automation Engineer to join our global engineering team where you will have an opportunity to utilize your technical expertise and experience to drive the various Red Lion Controls products in areas of Industrial Automation, IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) space, and various emerging technologies.

Essential Job Functions

  • Works in collaboration with the engineering team, product management and marketing to understand the needs of the customer and develops workable test solutions to enable user-friendly product design.
  • In conjunction with the Software Engineering Manager, establish clear engineering project milestones and deadlines, quality milestones and drive to meet those objectives.
  • Participate in cross-engineering project teams and with delivery teams to ensure projects delivered on time and meet expectations of customers.
  • Develops test to represent customer environments and drive exploratory test to raise product quality.
  • Complies with internal and external standards.
  • Be a resource to engineers, product management and DevOps teams in areas of test development and testing frameworks.
  • Carries out other duties as assigned as business needs require.

Minimum Required Education and Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or STEM engineering degree.
  • 5+ years of professional experience developing and executing tests on complex distributed software systems.
  • Demonstrated testing experience of embedded systems or device driver related products (Linux or Windows-based).
  • Excellent understanding of computer architecture, peripherals, and design constraints of embedded systems.
  • Ability to design and develop tests that yield deterministic and predictable outcomes.
  • Depth and breadth experience in developing tests across various test frameworks.
  • Experience with PLC programming, Networking or Industrial devices and communications.
  • Advanced Computer Networking and troubleshooting skills including Serial Communication interfaces.
  • Hands on experience in programming languages such as C, or C# or Python.
  • Demonstrated experience of Linux or any popular RTOS systems.
  • Excellent triaging, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Flexible and adept at sharing and knowledge transfer.

Preferred Education and Skills
  • Experience with testing industrial automation products
  • Experience of one or more Industrial communication protocols (Modbus, CAN, DNP3, MQTT etc.).
  • Familiarity with penetration testing, cybersecurity issues and vulnerabilities (IEC 62443).
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies. Experience with Git and Jira or equivalent tools is preferred.
  • Familiarity with TDD and/or BDD methods.
  • Understanding of one or more popular industrial cloud connectors (ex: AWS, Azure, Aveva, Cumulocity) and IIoT frameworks.
  • Experience with Cellular technologies (4G/5G), troubleshooting and carrier compliance testing and certification aspects.
