Primary Functions:
Support the tax compliance needs of the North America entities, focusing on US sales and use taxes, property taxes, and other state and local taxes. Lead the full return process for US sales and use tax and property tax. Support tax administration functions in coordination with other teams and tax team members.
Key Responsibilities include:
US Sales & Use Tax
- Prepare and file US sales and use, gross receipts, B&O, and other indirect tax returns
- Manage the filing calendar to ensure dozens of monthly deadlines are met
- Analyze sales tax GL account balances and prepare reconciliations and journal entries
- Prepare daily use tax analysis and related support for billing teams
- Investigate and address queries and notices from tax authorities
- Support annual nexus analysis and complete registrations and de-registrations as needed
- Collaborate with state tax agencies on reviews and audits
- Recommend process improvements to increase accuracy and efficiency
US Property Tax - Prepare and file US personal property tax returns for all office locations
- Manage the filing calendar to ensure all property tax deadlines are met
- Collaborate with real estate team and fixed asset team to ensure office closures and openings are accurately reported
- Investigate and resolve queries and notices from state and county assessors
- Process and supervise all property tax bills and payments
- Recommend process improvements to increase accuracy and efficiency
Other Responsibilities include: Tax Administration
- Review mail from US tax authorities, routing to other teams and tax team members as the need arises
- Collaborate with admin team to ensure paper submissions are accurately mailed
- Coordinate with accounts payable team to ensure tax payments are accurately submitted
- Assist US income tax function by submitting state income tax payments
- Acquire periodic confirmation letters from tax authorities confirming compliance status
Canada Sales Tax - Prepare Canada sales tax work papers with support from other team members
- File Canada sales tax returns and prepare payment instructions and journal entries
Skills, competencies, and qualifications: - 5+ years' experience in sales and use taxes, with a proven ability to process a high volume of filings with phenomenal accuracy and attention to detail
- CPA designation
- Undergraduate degree in accounting or related field
- Masters' degree in accounting or taxation is an advantage but is not required
- Strong Excel skills
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and organize
- Excel at working independently and remotely
