GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Renthal Lab is seeking a highly motivated research scientist for a role in our effort to understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying chronic pain and developing novel gene therapies for treating it. We are looking for a talented and curious individual with molecular and cell biology and/or neuroscience experience, strong organizational skills, and the ability to attain a high degree of independence in a dynamic and stimulating research environment. The successful applicant will work closely with Dr. Renthal, the principal investigator, on current projects and help develop new projects to pursue independently or in collaboration with other investigators in the lab. She/he should be highly motivated to ask and answer research questions and contribute as a co-author/co-inventor on these studies. This will require the ability to design and perform experiments and to interpret experimental results. Our laboratory uses range of methods that span from animal models/systems neuroscience to single-cell transcriptional/epigenomic analyses. The successful applicant should have a strong background in at least one of these areas, and be passionate about learning new approaches. 10-20% of the successful applicant's time will be assisting Dr. Renthal with lab administration, including supervision of staff activities, maintaining animal protocols and lab safety, inventory management, and contributing to a positive and scholarly atmosphere in the lab. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to hire and/or oversee a junior research assistant.
