ECS is seeking a Senior Principal Systems Engineer to work in our Fairfax VA office as the Systems Engineering Team Lead managing and maintaining multiple network enclaves to support the DOD community. The candidate will provide leadership and support to a team developing, maintaining, creating, documenting, and installing network and enclave infrastructure. This is a demanding, high-energy position requiring innovative solutions to network, hardware, and software problems. The candidate will work with a team to install maintain and design the physical and virtual infrastructure of multiple enclaves. The candidate must have strong problem-solving skills.

Duties:

  • Architect, deploy, and administer production, test, and development environments.
  • Oversees the performance of day-to-day operational support for server, storage or network infrastructures.
  • Oversees the building, patching, testing (check for compatibility issues, conducts QA) and deployment of systems and platforms meeting clients' needs and specifications.
  • Oversees, plans and implements changes to infrastructure with the goal of enhancing performance.
  • Oversees storage and server data backup, data migration and disaster recovery operations.
  • Oversees software and operating system upgrades and track system licensing.
  • Oversees the configuration of security settings or access permissions for groups and individuals.
  • Configuration/Integration of Two-Factor Authentication for Windows applications
  • Evaluates and recommends new technologies, optimize operational efficiency, and troubleshoot problems arising in the infrastructure environments.
  • Participates in deployment of overall enterprise disaster recovery (DR) strategy
  • General Windows OS and Linux system administration.
  • Routinely interact with government stakeholders to communicate status, issues and progress.
  • Troubleshoot network connections and performance degradation
  • Engage in actively learning, deploying, and maintaining new technologies
  • Identify areas of potential efficiency improvement to include the development of automated routines
  • Conduct other duties as needed.

Required Skills:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related technical field (e.g., Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, etc.)
  • Must be a US Citizen and have the ability to obtain a Top-Secret Clearance
  • Must hold (or acquire within 30 days) Information Assurance Technology (IAT) Level II certification(s) required to work on government IT systems, to include any of the following: CCNA Security, GICSP, GSEC or higher-level certification
  • 10+ years of experience in Information Technology with increasing responsibilities in an enterprise server infrastructure focusing on systems engineering and integration in a DoD environment
  • 6+ years supporting a large Windows environment and extensive server experience
  • Experience managing the deployment, maintenance and operations of bare metal and virtualization systems in a hybrid environment
  • Experience supporting web-based systems performance analysis and optimization
  • 5+ Years network administration and troubleshooting
  • Demonstrated ability to apply an understanding of systems administration and operations to proactively identify and remediate day-to-day technical and operational challenges
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to interact with customer stakeholders, including senior leadership.
  • Ability to write through system engineering documentation such as Implementation Plans, Design Documents, CONOPS, and Test Plans.
  • Strong understanding of network engineering tools, techniques, and best practices. Experience troubleshooting connectivity issues across all layers of the TCP/IP stack.

Desired Skills:
  • Active Top-Secret Clearance
  • Experience with basic scripting (PowerShell/PowerCLI)
  • Experience with Jira and Confluence
  • Experience with DoD STIGs and patch management
  • Experience with UCS blades and Netapp Configuration and Management
  • Virtual server builds and maintenance (i.e. - VMware ESX, ESXi, Hyper-V)
  • Windows Server / Linux containerized environments
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) Server
  • Database Management (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, ElasticSearch, etc.)
