Overview / Responsibilities

Wood Specialist Engineering & Consulting Group is currently recruiting for a Senior GIS / Geomatics Specialist with a strong background in marine/offshore Survey and Geoscience, to join our Survey, GIS and Data Management Team in either our Houston or Austin, Texas offices.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a growing team that supports a variety of clients, projects, and internal business partners across both the traditional offshore oil and gas sector, and the growing US onshore and offshore clean energy market. The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing the use of GIS and other digital technologies. In addition to supporting the Houston and Austin offices, there will be opportunities to contribute to the survey, GIS and geoscience global technical disciplines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Management of project GIS databases including documentation and data model development.
  • Validation, management and interpretation of survey and engineering data.
  • Production of high-quality maps, charts, reports and other data deliverables for internal and external issue.
  • Configuration and optimization of map services, SQL reports and other content for web-based GIS portals.
  • Creating SQL database views and FME Workspaces for data publishing and migration.
  • Configuration and validation of database loading tools.
  • Collaborating with engineers and designers on pipeline routing and other GIS analysis tasks.
  • Participation in project meetings and workshops.
  • Writing GIS data specifications and other technical material.
  • Leading internal and external training programs on GIS applications.
  • Raising awareness and supporting the wider adoption of digital technologies through workshops, presentations and marketing materials.


Skills / Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Geographic Information Systems (or a related Geomatics field) or Technical Diploma equivalent is required. Master's degree an asset
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a role providing support to engineering services and design
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in ESRI ArcGIS products including ArcGIS Server and 3D Analyst.
  • Experience in oil/gas subsea fields and offshore wind developments is highly desirable. Relevant onshore experience will also be considered.
  • A good working knowledge of AutoCAD, Global Mapper and data exchange with ESRI products.
  • Strong SQL Server or related RDBMS skills.
  • Experience working with digital elevation models and performing terrain analysis.
  • A good understanding of coordinate systems and transformations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to work extended hours as required to deliver projects.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment to deliver on team goals.
  • Self-motivated and requiring minimal supervision.
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Experience working in Microsoft Team

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience on Renewables Energy (Offshore Wind) projects.
  • Experience in offshore survey data (eg. ROV, AUV) acquisition, processing and geo-interpretation.
  • Knowledge of survey data models e.g. SSDM.
  • Knowledge of linear referencing and pipeline data models e.g. PODS, APDM.
  • Knowledge of E&P company engineering data models.
  • Previous participation in industry-wide advisory boards or task forces.
  • Experience in conference presentation or technical paper submissions.
  • Experience of automating tasks using Python, ArcGIS Model Builder or FME.
  • Experience using Geocortex Essentials and/or ArcGIS Enterprise.
