Standard Chartered Bank in New York is seeking a Senior Credit Manager for Financial Institutions. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing credit risk for Financial Institutions located in Latin America. This position reports to the Senior Credit Officer for Financial Institutions Risk in the Americas. The successful candidate should have a thorough understanding of the product range within the Corporate & Institutional Bank, including Transaction Banking and Financial Markets, as well as exceptional analytical and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and approve business propositions for Latin America-based counterparties within delegated credit authorities. Add support to proposals outside those discretions for approval when appropriate.
  • Ensure the credit quality of the portfolio is strong, risk appetite is set at appropriate levels, and exposure falls within Group Policy, Risk Tolerance levels, and Business Strategy.
  • Provide timely and accurate reporting of portfolio information to senior management.
  • Promote a robust credit culture in the region.
  • Participate in and report to senior level risk committees.
  • Identify counterparty issues early and develop action plans to mitigate risk.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders.
  • Stay abreast of client and market developments by accompanying Global Account Managers on client visits.

Key Criteria:
  • At least 5 years of relevant credit risk experience.
  • Prior experience as a credit approver or underwriter in financial institutions, dealing with banks, broker dealers, and insurance companies.
  • Proficiency in Spanish.
  • A degree in a relevant field.

Essential Competencies:
  • Completion of both Credit Skills Assessment (CSA) and FI Core Credit Curriculum (CCC) or full CCC.
  • Deep understanding of counterparty credit risk.
  • Comprehensive analytical skills.
  • Ability to make sound judgments under time constraints.
  • Capacity to think objectively and innovatively.
  • Familiarity with interest rate swaps or derivatives in general.
  • Knowledge of deal structuring and mitigation.
  • Excellent communication & collaborative abilities.

Additional Assets:
  • Recent exposure as a credit officer, credit analyst, or relationship manager in corporate and institutional banking.
  • Proficiency in Portuguese.

Salary & Benefits

Expected annual base pay range for the role is $165,000 to $200,000. The final offer will be determined on an individualized basis using a number of variables, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience and education, internal relativity, and specific work location.
