The University Business Administrators program was established to provide academic and administrative units of Florida State University exemplary professional staff, customized business operations, and a proactive liaison relationship with the Division of Finance & Administration. Beginning operations in 1960, WFSU-TV started in a small studio on the Florida State University campus. More than 50 years later, WFSU Public Media is a member station of both National Public Radio (NPR) and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS). In total, WFSU Public Media offers two television broadcast stations, one cable-only station, one statewide satellite television service, four FM broadcast stations and online streaming services. WFSU also provides community outreach and early education services, as well as acts as a teaching and learning lab for Florida State University students.

Responsibilities

This position is responsible for managing the daily accounting and financial functions for WFSU TV and WFSU FM.

  • Identifies and implements effective policies and procedures for Finance & Administration (F&A) activities and supervises day to day operations providing guidance and coordination of activities and/or staff for the WFSU accounting areas.
  • Audits, analyzes, and verifies F&A activities to include accounts payable, accounts receivable, revenue reconciliations, financial reporting, grant activities and compliance with State, Federal, University and WFSU policies.
  • Develops and maintains partnerships throughout the University in order to attain departmental goals and objectives.
  • Responsible for ensuring the accurateness, completeness, and timeliness of reconciliations of WFSU TV and FM accounts which include OMNI, FSU Foundation, and Research Foundation.
  • Monitors information maintained in the internal accounting system for accuracy and compliance with Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) reporting standards.
  • Works with the WFSU Membership and Underwriting departments and the FSU Foundation to assure all fundraising monies are collected and deposited timely and accurately.
  • Responsible for compliance with PCI DSS Industry Standards for WFSU operated merchant accounts completing annual policy updates, maintaining certification documents, and performing annual certification.
Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree and four years of experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and eight years of experience. (Note: a combination of post high school education and experience equal to eight years.)

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Ability to train and supervise employees.
  • Knowledge of accounting systems and practices.
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations.
  • Experience compiling, reviewing, and reconciling data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Experience balancing multiple work projects simultaneously.

They are adept at building relationships with partner offices to effectively complete tasks and create efficiencies in existing processes. No two days are alike so it is important to able to easily jump between the current project and the last minute request. Experience leading a team is important as they will both teach them and learn from them where gaps in knowledge exist.

Soft Money Funded Position

This is a soft money funded position, with renewal based on available funds and the needs of the University.

This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check. The background check will be conducted as authorized and in accordance with University Policy 4-OP-C-7-B11.
