The University of Virginia seeks a School Programs Specialist to support the Fralin Museum of Art at the University of Virginia. The Fralin Museum of Art at the University of Virginia encourages the spirit of curiosity and promotes diversity of thought through the study, care, and celebration of art.

The School Programs Specialist (incumbent) reports to the Manager of Docent and Teacher Programs and in collaboration with education staff, organizes the Writer's Eye program, an annual ekphrastic writing program entering its 36th year. Organization of the program includes all administration and publications associated with the program. The incumbent actively seeks new audiences for school tours and works closely with museum staff to develop dynamic tour offerings. Maintains and builds relationships with schools, including administrators and teachers. Supports the Manager of Docent and Teacher Programs to implement Teacher Professional Development and Docent Education. Communicates with Curatorial and Collections departments regarding exhibition information and image permissions. Creates and leads tours that align with Fralin teaching pedagogy. Creates and implements school program digital content as well as program evaluations. Assists with programs, including material preparation, set-up and cleanup for programs and meetings, and other tasks as needed. The incumbent will be part of the Education team at a university art museum and as such will train and supervise interns and volunteers. In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in education, art, art history or related field.

  • At least two years of teaching experience is required. Relevant student experience may be considered.

This position will remain open until filled. Review of Applicants will begin May 6, 2022. This is an Exempt level, benefited position. Anticipated Hiring Range: $40,000 - $49,000 commensurate with education and experience. The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment.
