Basic Job Functions:

The Safety Specialist will be an integral part of the entire Nucor Plymouth team. This position will help develop proactive measures to help the division continually improve on our safety journey. Duties include, but are not limited to, being actively involved to ensure compliance with OSHA, UOSH, NFPA, DOT and WC regulations; participating in internal and external audits, audits specifically related to on site contractors; creating training materials; leading training sessions; assisting in site safety committees to achieve facility goals. Also included are activities within the division and work with outside auditors and governmental inspectors as applicable/directed. In addition, the role may include involvement with other Nucor U.S. facilities and their programs through occasional audits of their operations and participation in corporate wide meetings and programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

• A minimum of 2 years full time safety related experience and/or 2 years equivalent education from an accredited school
• Ability/willingness to be on call, work some off-shifts and travel as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Safety related industrial experience of the candidate in a steel manufacturing/fabrication environment
• Familiarity with a recognized safety program (ex. OSHA Voluntary Protection Program or ISO 45001)
• Industrial Hygiene understanding and/or experience
• Experience in environmental programs and compliance
• A 4-year degree in a related discipline (ex. IH or Public Health) or equivalent years full time safety experience
• Emergency Services certification(s)
