Basic Job Functions:

Responsibilities for the Safety Coordinator include but are not limited to:

  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead and uphold safety policies, procedures, and housekeeping standards.
  • A commitment to Safety, Environmental, Quality, Productivity and Profitability through leadership throughout the division.
  • Develop and maintain safety training and all safety, accident and worker's compensation records.
  • Establish safety policies, monitor OSHA compliance, ensure division conformance with division, NBG and corporate regulations and be a driver of the division's safety culture.
  • Actively contribute and participate in Nucor's local, regional, product group and corporate-wide safety teams and initiatives.
  • Along with the division leadership, strategically plan and execute improvements to our safe practices for operations and equipment along with methods to enhance the working environment and culture.
  • Familiarity of the manufacturing processes for each operation.
  • Travel, with the potential of short notice. Working the required hours including flexibility for second and third shifts, and to be on-call in emergency situations 24/7.
  • Oversee management of change, incident investigations, metric records and reporting to OHSA and the corporate office and the division's Safety Management System.

Detailed Selection Criteria:

  • Leadership Presence and Courage - Willingness and confidence to have immediate and direct conversations on subjects such as teamwork, relationships, change and production process issues that arise with their team, peers and leadership.
  • Administration -Business acumen and the utilization of leadership techniques, production methods, and coordination of resources.
  • Dependability - Being reliable, responsible, and committed to fulfilling obligations with urgency.
  • Initiative - Willingness and confidence to take on responsibilities and challenges in an optimistic and proactive fashion.
  • Accountability - Demonstrates integrity by creating trust and doing the right thing. Shows courage in decision making and not being afraid of making mistakes. Accepts responsibility and knows he/she is accountable for own actions.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Willingness and ability to obtain EMR certification within 18 months

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4 year degree in Safety or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Prior safety leadership experience in a steel fabricating environment
  • Knowledge and experience in workers compensation
  • OSHA VPP experience
