Job Summary
The Bankruptcy Risk and Compliance Manager is an advanced subject matter expert in Bankruptcy and is responsible for managing and providing support, as applicable, for both internal and external audits; and monitoring overall quality of Bankruptcy functions. Additionally, this role is responsible for identifying gaps in processes and crafting controls to reduce future risk, while ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements and investor/insurer guidelines. Further responsibilities include department change management and process improvement.

Pay Range: $58,500.00 - $83,000.00 - $107,500.00

Job Responsibilities:

  • Identify potential risks and mitigating factors that could impact the overall quality of Flagstar's Bankruptcy function.
  • Responsible for understanding and, as required, effecting change to, underlying Default Servicing processes to ensure compliance with/adherence to applicable investor guidelines, regulatory and legal requirements, and Default Servicing standards.
  • Responsible for resolving complex/complicated exceptions to the standard Bankruptcy process.
  • Provide consistent communication and any policy and/or process changes to management as needed.
  • Maintain knowledge of regulatory requirements, investor/insurer guidelines and other relevant timeframes required for Bankruptcy processing.
  • Reinforces culture of shared ownership and accountability for results.
  • Collaborating with other default servicing teams, and other internal teams, to assist in the continued development of a best in class default servicing oversight operation.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by manager.

    Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. Completes all required compliance training. Maintains knowledge of and adhere to Flagstar's internal compliance policies and procedures. Takes responsibility to keep up to date with changing regulations and policies.

Job Requirements:
  • HS Diploma, GED or Foreign Equivalent Required
  • Bachelor's Degree Preferred (Business, Finance, Economics, or equivalent)
  • Required, 8+ years of experience in Default Mortgage Servicing and/or bankruptcy
  • Required, 5+ years of demonstrated expertise in bankruptcy and demonstrated ability to understand, document, and optimize/improve operations processes through a consulting/people, process, technology lens (prior consulting and/or operational experience preferred)
  • Required, 3+ years demonstrated expertise in understanding Mortgage, Mortgage Servicing and Mortgage Servicing Regulation (TCPA, FDCPA, FCRA) and Regulators (OCC, FRB, CFPB, GSE, HUD
  • Preferred, 5+ years of experience with servicing systems, including MSP/BKFS templates
  • Proficiency in understanding of risk, compliance and regulatory & investor requirements pertaining to bankruptcy
  • Self-Driven, Personally Accountable Personality
  • Understanding of MS Office Suite with intermediate technical and computer skills, specifically looking for a strong ability to utilize Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to navigate quickly within various computer programs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong listening skills
  • Exceptional analytical and problem solving skills with an ability to think quickly under pressure.
  • Ability to handle high production volume
  • Ability to look for ways to improve and promote quality.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment
  • Confident and efficient work approach
  • TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Limited to no travel expected
