Job Description

The RF Broadcast Engineer operates within a state-of-the-art broadcast and production facility and is responsible for all engineering functions supporting RF broadcast transmission equipment, as well as terrestrial distribution and head end equipment. Please note this position is represented by IBEW Local 1212. If not already a member of Local 1212, the successful applicant will have to join Local 1212 or pay the dues necessary for representation by Local 1212.

Specific responsibilities include:
• Ensure the station is operating in compliance with license agreements and FCC regulations;
• Monitor, meter and calibrate systems and equipment, including the maintaining of station records and the logging and reporting of problems with subsequent resolutions;
• Provide maintenance support of Broadcast and Transmission facilities and equipment, including, high power RF transmitters, microwave, fiber optic and IP transmission;
• Maintain and provide software upgrades and support of Television Broadcast Equipment;
• Conduct general station maintenance and staff support needs related to a broadcast television station;
• Additional duties as assigned.
Position requires on site work at several facilities. Schedule may include nights and weekends, as the position is accountable for 24/7 operability.

Qualified candidates will be a team player with the ability to work independently as well. In addition, strong troubleshooting skills, ability to work on concurrent tasks and perform successfully under pressure will be needed. Additional qualifications include:
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in radio engineering and operations;
• Experience with live, and near live production events as well as remote broadcasts and production;
• Proficiency with Windows Server/Client platforms, high performance storage systems and audio encoding/delivery systems;
• Experience with operating Burk transmitter control systems;
• Knowledge of broadcast equipment including EAS and Nielsen;
• Knowledge and experience with industry standard video encoding standards.
• Ability to read and understand digital video and RF test equipment.

Candidates must be able to work independently and adaptable to change in new technologies. Strong communication and interpersonal skills will be needed along with the ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.

The position requires onsite work during work hours. Per WNET's vaccine mandate policy and in accord New York City's existing vaccine requirement, the successful candidate must show proof that they are fully vaccinated under applicable guidelines.

The successful candidate must live in the New York City area, as travel to facilities in the area housing company equipment may be required on short notice.
