General Summary:

Respiratory Therapist, RRT perform patient assessments and procedures related to the diagnosis and treatment of patients with cardiopulmonary disorders. Demonstrates clinical skill and cognitive ability in the implementation of therapist driven protocols, the set up and maintenance of respiratory related equipment, the administration of medications, and performs invasive procedures. Participates in patient, family, and multi-disciplinary education. Works with patients of all ages and is competent to operate age-appropriate equipment in both the acute and sub-acute areas of St Francis Medical Center. Emphasis is on the maintenance of life support equipment along with related treatments and procedures designed to support or improve a patient's cardio-respiratory status.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring patient physiological responses to therapy such as arterial blood gases, vital signs or blood chemistry, and lung function changes, and consulting with physicians if there are adverse reactions.
  • Working as part of a team of health care professionals to manage patient care by assisting with medical procedures.
  • Setting up and operating devices including therapeutic gas administration apparatus, mechanical ventilators, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators.
  • Following specified parameters of treatment.
  • Providing emergency care, such as external cardiac massage, artificial respiration, or assistance with cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Inspecting, testing, cleaning, and maintaining respiratory therapy equipment to ensure it is functioning safely and efficiently.
  • Maintaining charts that contain patient identification and therapy information.
  • Measuring arterial blood gases, reading prescriptions, lung capacity, and reviewing other information to assess patient condition.
  • Relaying blood analysis results to a physician.
  • Making emergency visits to resolve equipment problems when necessary.
  • Ordering equipment repairs when necessary.
  • Explaining health care treatment procedures to patients to gain cooperation.
  • Checking pulmonary function in patients.

What your day will look like:
  • Full-time, Night Shift/36 Scheduled Weekly Hours

Job Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program offering Associate's degree; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Sleep Technician experience is preferred but not required/will train for Sleep experience
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner licensure by the State of New Jersey.
  • Credentialed as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
  • Therapist by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • BCLS certification.
  • Ideally 1-3 years' experience in similar settings
  • At least six (6) months of clinical experience as a Respiratory Therapist or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience preferred

Additional Technical Requirements
  • Ability to see within normal limits (including identification of color) with or without use of corrective devices
  • Ability to hear within normal range with or without corrective devices
  • Motor dexterity of hands and fingers
  • Ability to utilize proper body mechanics
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time
  • Ability to bend, lift, move and pull frequently
  • Ability to lift at least 35 pounds without assistance
  • Ability to communicate in the English language orally and in writing
  • Ability to work in hot and cold areas
