Job Description Summary
The Immune Health Initiative at the University of Pennsylvania is seeking a Resource Technologist to join our team and work towards our goals to understand patients' immune systems and characterize them in ways that can drive diagnostic, prevention, and/or treatment decisions across a variety of health conditions. The motivated, well-organized individual we are seeking will provide experimental assistance to senior level scientists in the group to establish reproducible assays for measuring immune responses. The successful candidate will have the ability to follow standardized protocols, have great attention to detail, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and in a team setting.
The candidate will be responsible for the tasks listed below:
- Prepare and acquire precious, limited human blood and tissue samples for high dimensional analysis by flow cytometry and assist in the development and set up of serological assays, including building custom antigen panels with an exceptional degree of accuracy and reproducibility that will facilitate sophisticated unsupervised quality analysis (QA) and data analysis. Results may inform clinical decision-making.
- Strict adherence to biosafety procedures is required, especially as some samples may be from patients with acute infections and/or could contain bloodborne pathogens. Previous experience working with human biospecimens and/or working in a sterile laboratory environment is preferred.
- Strive to minimize technical variation at every step of the procedures in order to help mitigate overall sample variability, which is essential due to high interindividual biological variation often found when working with human samples.
- Maintain a detailed inventory of reagents, including peptides, antigens and fluorescently conjugated antibodies. Test and titrate antibodies and other reagents for optimal concentrations and performance.
- Record daily experimental procedures. Ensure samples are accurately tracked throughout each step, up to and including data generation, analysis and storage using the lab sample and file inventory databases.
- Update laboratory protocols; make changes as necessary and publish to laboratory database.
- Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills as well as the ability to design and troubleshoot experiments and recognize and identify potential variables that can impact sample viability, quality, or other reagent performance.
A Bachelor's Degree in biology, biochemistry, or related field is required. Laboratory experience with basic techniques is preferred. Additionally, attention to detail and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment is required.Job Location - City, State
