Job Purpose

The Researcher I will develop, prepare, execute and analyze research elements (e.g. problems, questions, ideas) in paints and coatings. This role develops new and improves existing research coatings methodologies in line with the R&D strategy, projects, and R&D functional standards. In this position you will work to gain insight into new research developments for cross-business unit applications (Global Technology) and contribute to the realization of the strategic objectives of AkzoNobel.

Key Activities

  • Participates in projects and ensures execution and delivery of technical results
  • Delivers results on time for longer term projects, ensuring quality and feasibility, according to business needs
  • Keeps current on uses and improves relevant research methods in the field
  • Ensures retention of knowledge through research reports
  • Identifies new technologies/process optimization and technical solutions and new application opportunities for paints and coatings and shares these with other professionals
  • Sets-up, plans, executes, analyses, interprets, and reports experiments within own unit
  • Formulates and presents solution directions, and issues advice at request or at own initiative
  • Applies research methodologies, tools and systems
  • Provides functional guidance to junior chemists/technicians
  • Collaborates with legal counsel to create intellectual property (IP) for the protection of AkzoNobel technologies
  • Maintains and promotes a safe work environment, complies with safety policies and procedures.

Education & Experience

Ph.D. in chemistry/chemical engineering or related fields with minimum 0-2 years of experience or Master's degree in chemistry/chemical engineering or related fields and minimum 1-3 years of experience in the coatings industryor Bachelor's degree in chemistry/chemical engineering or related fields and minimum 6-9 years of experience in the coatings industry.
