GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

AResearch Technician (RT)works independently under the guidance of thelaboratorydirector, clinical laboratory staff, and laboratorymanager(s). The RT performs a variety ofmicrobiological methods, both manual and instrumented if required. These procedures will be performed inaccordance with standards of the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute(CLSI) and will be overseen and coordinated by the senior technologist. The RT is directly supervised by theMicrobiology Laboratory Technical Director and the Senior Technologists in theMicrobiology Molecular Laboratory.

In addition, a RT research study jobresponsibilities and duties may be focused on research and development ofassays related to COVID-19 testing. Mayalso help evaluate data and compile and maintains research data, regulatory bindersand study databases.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Set-upprocessing tubes to be aliquoted

• Labeledthe accompany sheet with the labels

• Aliquotprimary specimens into the Cobas 6800 working tubes...a dedicated orange pad andindividual pipet is required for each specimen

• Trackall aliquoted specimens to location "CP" in Sunquest.

• TransferCobas working tubes into the assigned racks, designated as ED/IN patients andOut patients.

• May Process upper respiratory and salivaspecimens for molecular detection for COVID-19 per established protocols

• Astime allows, will partially open individually wrapped pipets to stock emptycontainers and cut orange gauze pads into half sizes

  • Prepares basic solutions and performs base-level procedures as assigned (i.e. - pipetting, cell and tissue culture, etc.)
  • Conducts analysis of results and may begin interpretation of results
  • Sets up and prepares routine experiments as directed
  • Prepares lab reagents, chemicals, instruments and equipment
  • May perform independent literature searches
  • Assists with organizing materials for publication or presentation
• Maintaining and ordering supplies

• May perform and keep accurate records ofequipment maintenance and quality control

• Performs clerical and support services asneeded. Responds to customer needs andrequests

• May participate in research, developmentand implementation of laboratory tests, procedures and policies

Qualifications
EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor's degree required.
EXPERIENCE:
  • New graduates with some lab experience (via course work, internships, etc.) or those without any prior research experience will be considered for the Research Technician I position outlined above.
  • Those with a minimum of 1 year of directly related work experience will be considered for a Research Technician II position.
