Job Description Summary
The position will be comprised of the following: assisting the Principal Investigators and other senior lab personnel, employing a variety of techniques such as tissue culture and virus infections, ELISA, western blotting, surface plasmon resonance (SPR), production and purification of recombinant proteins, processing and analysis of large sets of data.
Job Description
A full-time Laboratory Research Specialist position is available to carry on studies on development and evaluation of a human herpes simplex virus vaccine, now at the stage of Phase I clinical trial. We seek a skilled researcher to perform highly detailed technical tests in a scientific laboratory. He/She will study the basic aspects of virus infection, immunological responses to complex virus glycoproteins, purify and characterize proteins, set up in vitro virus protection studies, cell culture and cell biology. He/she will generate data from their experiments, complete data entry, analyze and present data individually or in collaboration with Principal Investigators and other researchers in laboratory and collaborator meetings.
We seek candidates with experience in virology, cell biology, immunology and protein assays, “big data” analysis, and able to work independently and in a team effort. Strong interpersonal skills are highly desired. Detailed knowledge of virology, immunological (ELISA, western blotting, recombinant IgG production, and purification), and protein-protein interaction assays (Biacore) are a distinct advantage.
Participating in experiments of virus infection, recombinant protein purification, cell and molecular biology.
The ideal candidate must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and with computer and communication skills.
Master's degree in immunology, virology, cell biology, or a related field is required with 3-5 years of related experience in research. Preferred experience: a balance of cell biology, virology, and immunology.
Responsibilities/Duties include:
50% - SPR evaluation of protein-protein interactions in serum samples from Phase I clinical trials.
15% - Evaluation of serum samples for antibody content and infection inhibition properties.
25% - Data processing and analysis. Present oral and written summaries of work progress at lab meetings.
5% - Laboratory maintenance including but not limited to ordering supplies and equipment and equipment maintenance.
5% - Perform additional duties as assigned.
