POSITION SUMMARY:

Proposes and undertakes a mentored, innovative project or challenge to develop novel molecular therapies for retinal degenerative diseases. Designs and performs in vitro and animal experiments, analyzes and presents the outcomes.

The lab is focused on a transcription factor, RUNX1, and its role in aberrant retinal angiogenesis in diseases such as proliferative diabetic retinopathy and proliferative vitreoretinopathy. Recent Lab publications can be accessed at the following links:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Read, analyze and summarize published literature
  • Design and execute in vitro and in vivo experiments
- Have practical experience of lab techniques including qRT-PCR, WB, IHC, IF, ELIZA, mouse handling and tissue analysis, microscopy among others
  • Grant writing and manuscript preparation and submission
  • Attend relevant meetings required for the Lab and the Postdoctoral Training Program and present data updates as required
  • Meet regularly with mentor to review project progress and milestones
  • Plan and deliver an annual seminar on the project
Take administrative (inventory, purchasing, etc.) responsibilities in the lab when necessary

Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Applicants should have a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. in molecular/cellular biology, genetics, neuroscience, or a related discipline, and should have a demonstrated record of experience working with in vitro and in vivo models. Excellent scientific writing skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills including flexibility and a willingness to work across multiple projects, are necessary to succeed in this role. Specific knowledge and past experience in ocular research is beneficial but not essential.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Lab setting.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possible lifting of 10 to 20 lbs., depending on nature of chosen project(s).
