Position Summary:

The Research & Development Specialist II owns execution of defined pieces of a project or Lab Work Request requests under supervision. The employee will be efficient at testing and evaluating powder coated samples by using defined standard operating procedures (SOPs) and OEM standard specifications. The employee will also play a key role in ensuring compliance to ISO 17025 and the lab's quality system.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

• Undertake R&D and customer projects including sample preparation, testing, and evaluation of powder coated parts to meet specific project requirements with minimal supervision.
• Follow detailed specifications and instructions to accelerated and physical ISO 17025 guidelines.
• Provide customer assistance including, where appropriate, visits to customer facilities or customer visits to AkzoNobel.
• Manage the assigned LWR /projects, including timeline and planning, on a weekly timescale
• Provides data-driven insights to support diagnostics and resolution of test results and equipment preservation.
• Summarize test data in the form of spreadsheets, reports, and presentation; draws conclusions
• Promote the quality system through adhering to the elements of and being familiar with the philosophy, quality statement, quality manual, and procedures.
• Represent R&D and work effectively with cross-functional groups including but not limited to quality control and pilot plants
• Maintain clean and organized work environment
• Provide direct support to sales, marketing and supply chain efforts through reports, presentation, and customer interaction
• Attend and participates in Powder Plant Programs/Committees/Training as required, such as Department Safety, Plant Safety, Behavioural Safety, Housekeeping Audit Teams, ISO, Life Saving Rules or any other safety programs.
• Participates in the Powder Safety Journey. Adheres to the Golden Principle which is Simply to intervene to stop work if conditions or behaviour are unsafe.
• Performs other duties as required for the success of Akzo Nobel Coatings Inc.

What We Look For in a Candidate:

• 4 year degree in a laboratory science, preferably chemistry, materials science, or chemical engineering or 3 plus years of experience in analytical or testing sciences.
• Some work experience in chemistry or coatings industry is preferable, though appropriate academic experience can be substituted
• Excellent verbal and written communication
• Available to travel, as necessary
