You would be a clinical research coordinator at Brigham and Women's Hospital in the department of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Hypertension for {two years}. You would work for Dr. Anand Vaidya who is a senior principal investigator at BWH and an Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Vaidya's research group is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and focuses on adrenal hormonal disorders and adrenal tumors. The research group is comprised for 4-5 clinical research coordinators, 2-3 post-doctoral fellows, and 1-2 medical students. You would work with this entire team, and directly with Dr. Vaidya, to manage clinical research studies, work with study participants, and organize data for analysis.

Our research group is interested in the pathogenesis and treatment of human adrenal hormonal disorders and adrenal neoplasia. Our focus includes: understanding how adrenal hormones and neoplasia contribute to cardiovascular disease; the environmental and genetic risk factors for adrenal neoplasia; the connection between adrenal- and calcium-regulatory hormones. We study adrenal diseases including functional and non-functional adrenal adenomas, adrenal carcinomas, pheochromocytoma-paragangliomas, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, and adrenal insufficiency. Our research efforts are tightly linked to our multi-disciplinary clinical efforts in the BWH Center for Adrenal Disorders, which is dedicated to providing optimal care for patients with common and rare adrenal diseases.

As a research coordinator in Dr. Vaidya's team, you will work closely with patients in the clinics and closely with human research study participants. You will be responsible for organizing studies, collecting and managing study data, and analyzing data on occasions.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Provides assistance on clinical research studies as per study guidelines and protocols.
  • Recruits and evaluates potential study participants. May perform clinical tests such as blood pressure measurement and vital signs.
  • May perform assay for blood sugar determination.
  • Will coordinate visits, specimen collection, and specimen storage.
  • Interacts with study participants with regard to study, including study participant education, procedural instruction, and follow-up. May serve as a liaison between study participant and physician.
  • Responsible for collecting data and maintaining study particpant information database for study. May be required to input data, do minimum analysis, and run various reports. Maintains study participant research records as part of record keeping function.
  • Responsible for mailing various study information or packets to study participants.
  • Answers phone calls and inquiries regarding study protocol.
  • Monitors and sets up any needed equipment.
  • Maintains inventory and orders supplies when necessary.
  • Assists with data analysis and manuscript preparation.
  • All other duties, as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    BA or BS degree required. New graduate with relevant course or project work.

    SKILL/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

    • Excellent interpersonal skills are required for working with the study participants.
    • Good oral and written communication skills.
    • Knowledge of clinical research protocols.
    • Knowledge of computer programs, databases, etc. including excel, word, and PowerPoint.
    • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize a variety of tasks.
    • Careful attention to detail.
    • Ability to demonstrate professionalism and respect for subjects rights and individual needs.
    • Simple statistical programming.
