JOB SUMMARY

The Department of Physiology and Neurobiology at the University of Connecticut seeks to hire a full-time Research Assistant to join the research team studying epigenetic regulation of liver diseases. The candidate will participate in the studies identifying the molecular basis of the liver diseases in animal and mammalian cell culture models under the direction of Dr. Dong-Ju Shin.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Performing molecular biology and biochemistry experiments including RNA and protein isolation, PCR, western blotting, and real-time PCR; assisting mouse colony management; collaborating with others within the research team as well as working independently; maintaining detailed documentation through electronic and notebook means.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in the field of Biological Sciences or other relevant disciplines
  • Experience working in a research laboratory
  • Ability to maintain detailed documentation through electronic and notebook means
  • Self-motivated individuals with excellent organizational skills
  • Willingness to learn new experimental techniques and approaches
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience working with molecular biology and biochemistry techniques including PCR, western blotting, and real-time PCR
  • Experience working with small laboratory animals including mice
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate successfully on teams and work independently
APPOINTMENT TERMS

The initial appointment is for one year with the possibility of renewal base on satisfactory performance and department funding.
