The Research Analyst I role in BMT Oncology Data is responsible for interpreting and analyzing data from various EMRs and paper records in order to report both pre- and post-transplant outcomes data to the Center for International Blood & Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR) for patients undergoing blood & marrow hematopoietic stem cell transplants, donor cellular or lymphocyte infusions, and other novel cellular therapies (e.g., CAR-T infusion) for hematologic diseases. CIBMTR maintains several systems for reporting, collecting, and maintaining this data. This work is tracked and evaluated in a couple of different ways. First through the Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) program which monitors our ability to handle our form volume on a staggered trimester basis. 90% of all forms due within a given trimester must be submitted by the end of the next trimester (Jan-Apr due by Aug 31, May-Aug due by Dec 31, Sep-Dec due by Apr 30). Second through a 4- yr audit cycle. CIBMTR randomly selects 16 patients to review, and they have set “critical” or “random” data fields they audit for these patients. An error rate &< 3% must be achieved to pass the audit. In coordination with the quality assurance & compliance team, the BMT data team assists in maintaining requirements for the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT). Regular and frequent audits of our data are completed to ensure we can achieve the &< 3% error rate threshold. In addition, various internal data tracking and outcomes analysis projects that are important to the physician group are undertaken and presented at regular meetings. These include topics such as readmissions tracking, review of infections, quarterly M&M, bi-annual CAR-T review, monthly volume and outcomes report, survivorship tracking, chimerism tracking, minimal residual disease tracking, GvHD review, outcomes analysis for transplant/regimen/disease type.
