Reliability Engineering Team Leader

Hypertherm is looking for a Reliability Engineering Team Leader to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for leading several Reliability Engineering teams. The ideal candidate is very comfortable with defining & setting engineering standards. An integral part of this role is to drive reliability best practices and to provide a guiding influence across various business engineering teams. As a Reliability Engineering Team Leader you will:

Clearly articulate and tie reliability and robustness imperatives to Hypertherm corporate initiatives, financial and market segment objectives in a compelling manner to continually secure supportive coalitions across the business.

People Leadership: Provide leadership to a team within Reliability engineering, including Engineers and Team Leaders. Responsible for associate selection, training, coaching, development, conflict resolution, planning, performance management and recognition. Maintain a high standard for performance in a professional, supportive, and respectful manner. Foster a team that promotes engagement, development, well-being, and team effectiveness. Build organizational capability by developing associates, establishing mentors and training by looking at business team and enterprise-wide requirements to meet changing business needs.

Strategic Vision:

Promote the business value of achieving a robust reliable product to communities of customer facing, financial, product safety/compliance, design, quality, and operations professionals at Hypertherm. Influence broadening the definition of the Reliability Engineering role with value adds including Reliability Fleet Management/IoT engagement, preventive/predictive maintenance, knowledge engineering and FTA.

Reliability Engineering:

Improve/maintain relevant capital assets and tools required to verify and deliver industry-leading robustness and reliability of our systems to Hypertherm end users and partners. Continually improve Reliability Engineering policy, standards, and procedures for effective, efficient and scalable results for the growing, multi-technology Hypertherm. Sponsor/lead FMEA, FTA, Hazard Analysis, and system safety assessments within New Product Development, sustaining engineering and Field defect programs, additionally will lead root cause correction as needed.

Sustaining & New Product Development:

Drive the ability of the Reliability engineering team to influence and assist business teams to address New Product Development (NPD) programs, product enhancement and quality improvement opportunities. Impact both short term project portfolio reliability efforts within a Business Team offering and long-term enduring reliability of the Hypertherm brand, cross enterprise, for Hypertherm users and partners. Drive reliability and design organizations toward fast failure/learning and verification of design margins for system strength improvement and informed/timely business decision making. Prioritize timely improvement over measurement.

Is the voice of reliability and system robustness during NPD stage gate process with effective, actionable tasks and feedback to the development teams.

Impact & Influence/Working Across Boundaries/Collaboration

Create/nurture a global guiding coalition and relationships within Hypertherm to assure continuity of key reliability initiative support, as well as close links with voice of the customer surrogates including global technical service, regional product application, sales, and product service professionals as well as business team quality professionals.

Customer Focus:

Understand external customers' needs and expectations, and integrate these to improve products, services, and processes, including activities associated with new product or service development with business teams.

Who you are and the experience you will bring:

  • Bachelors in STEM with 10+ years with technical and people leadership experience
  • Proven ability to impact and influence multiple business teams with conflicting priorities and utilize problem solving techniques to meet business objectives
  • Minimum of 5 years project management
  • Experience mentoring/training the engineering community on complex technical issues
  • Knowledge of problem-solving and continuous improvement techniques and tools, including Design for Six Sigma
  • Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical leaders and associates
  • Passion for technology and innovation
  • Ability to partner and collaborate with people at all levels

Preferred experience to differentiate you:
  • Experience in a related industry (welding, plasma cutting, laser, power supply) desired
  • Black Belt Certification
  • ASQ Certified Reliability Engineer
  • Knowledge and practicum of DFMA, FMEA, pFMEA, PCB(A), 3-D & thermal modeling tools is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with building, deploying, and maintaining test automation and data systems (SCADA).
  • Experience with Beckhoff PLCs/TwinCAT, NI LabVIEW, Microsoft SQL server, and PowerBI.
  • Electrical/Circuit design
  • Proficiency in common programming languages/scripting American Society of Quality Certified Reliability Engineer (ASQ-CRE), Six Sigma certification, or related professional certification.
  • Experience with New Product Development, working within a multi-disciplinary team (marketing, supply chain, customer service, or other engineering disciplines).
  • Experience leading a technical project or product development process and an understanding of industrial design and commercialization.
  • Experience providing technical leadership or mentorship in a team environment. Experience working with connected products/data science to improve product reliability, quality, cost, and functionality.
  • An advanced degree in Engineering, Physics, Data Science, or related area.
