The Vision

The Vice President will oversee Practice Operations in our North Region, which includes the following sub-regions:
  • North Shore
  • Merrimack Valley/Tuscan (Salem, NH)
  • New Hampshire/Maine Seacoast
This is a hybrid role based out of the Mass General Brigham Corporate Headquarters (Somerville, MA) with the expectation for routine onsite presence at the various North Region sites.

As a key member of the Mass General Brigham Medical Group (MGB MG) executive leadership team, the Regional Vice President, Practice Operations reports to the President/COO, MGB Medical Group and is responsible for regional operational, clinical, and financial leadership and for establishing and executing MGB MG business goals. Directly supervises the regional Executive Directors and Medical Directors. This leadership role is responsible for ensuring that the organization functions as a high performing, integrated multispecialty physician group practice. This role is accountable for the development and continuous improvement of administrative, financial, and clinical operating systems that provide and support high quality clinical care, exceptional patient service, operational efficiency, and cost effectiveness, fosters provider and staff engagement and satisfaction and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements. The Regional Vice Presidents will play a critical role in the merger of eight separate community medical groups in to one harmonized and high-performing organization. This will include partnering with the other Regional Vice President to align regional leadership roles, responsibilities, spans and layers to ensure equity and retain and/or recruit talented leaders.

Essential Functions
  • Guide the development of "best practice" performance standards related to patient access, provider schedules, productivity expectations, and patient flow. Implement staffing models that are appropriate to the volume and intensity of services provided and the number and mix of clinical providers.
  • Responsible for ensuring the consistency of practice management staffing and operations each day including administrative and clinical support.
  • Guide the formulation, implementation, monitoring, and accountability management of systems to manage utilization, reduce variation, and improve financial performance to achieve excellent clinical outcomes, optimize financial results, and meet affordability targets.
  • Oversee the annual development of MGB MG regional operating and capital budgets within guidelines/targets established leadership and in collaboration with the President/COO of MGB MG.
  • Monitor patient experience metrics and proactively address with regional dyads those practices/clinical areas not achieving performance expectations.
  • Ensures operational policies and procedures are developed and kept current and are consistent across practices as appropriate.
  • Ensures compliance functions, including record keeping and reporting, meet applicable local, state, and federal regulations and the requirements of accrediting agencies; initiates corrective action as necessary.
  • Monitor section/practice access compared to the established standards and assesses the need for operational improvement and/or capacity expansion as appropriate.
  • Promote a team-based practice environment where all staff work to the level of their license and/or training and demonstrate a commitment to the patient centered care model and ambulatory flow.
  • In conjunction with the President/COO of MGB MG, develop a supportive, caring culture that fosters professional satisfaction, resiliency, and development and joy in the practice of medicine.
  • Accountable for establishing a culture of service excellence across all practice sites and achieving superior patient experience results. Monitors patient experience results and works with administrative and clinical leadership to improve performance and provide transparency of results.
  • Develop and maintain effective communication programs that keep physicians, management and staff advised on matters affecting the interests of MGB MG.
  • In partnership with MGB Network Development, oversee community practices seeking employment in the region including cost and operational analysis, practice valuations, and level of alignment and makes authoritative recommendation to leadership regarding practice acquisition or merger.
  • Ensure employee morale via open lines of communication and fair, equitable and transparent treatment. Helps foster an atmosphere that recognizes, celebrates and rewards both individual and team accomplishment.
  • Assesses satisfaction and engagement of physician and non-physician staff through both formal and informal means, identifies areas of needed focus and creates action plans for improvement.
  • Directly supervises regional Executive Director and Medical Director dyads and provides coaching and opportunities to professional development. May provide indirect supervision to finance and physician recruitment staff.
  • Mentors and develops direct reports providing continuous support and feedback. Initiates counseling and disciplinary process as necessary. Ensures the management team serves as role models for the organization's values and culture.


Qualifications
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in clinical discipline, healthcare administration, finance, or business required
  • Master's degree in Business or Health Administration; or other advanced certification in finance, business, or healthcare leadership preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of healthcare experience with demonstrated leadership progression; prior practice management experience preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience managing multispecialty physician practice operations is preferred.
  • Must have excellent administrative skills, highly proficient with Microsoft Office applications and project coordination experience. Position requires strong skills in the following areas: people leadership, organization, attention to detail, discretion and strong/written verbal communication, and impeccable customer service. Position requires independent judgment and decision making.
Knowledge and Skills
  • In-depth understanding of group practice culture and physician group management, with a proven track record of success in senior leadership roles with significant administrative and budgetary responsibilities.
  • Proven accomplishments in leading, directing, and planning a multispecialty group practice. Significant experience in aligning/integrating physicians and other providers within a health system.
  • A track record of success working in an environment of collaboration, transparency, mutual respect, and shared passion for excellence and innovation.
  • Visionary leadership regarding healthcare delivery models, population health management, patient access, and other relevant topics.
  • Experience leading a team of skilled, independent, and competent senior managers and the ability to plan and delegate assignments, review work, and supervise.
  • The ability to plan, organize, and prioritize as well as allocate resources and manage multiple ongoing, concurrent projects.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with the various constituencies and to convey complex matters in an understandable manner.
  • Strong analytical skills required to develop and interpret complex financial and utilization data.
