This position supports our healthcare professional liability line of business. Preference is for this position to be based in Texas (hybrid or fully remote depending upon location). We will also consider fully remote in Missouri and Oklahoma.

Job Summary:

This Regional Manager is a key department and regional leader. This position will manage the assigned Risk Management team member(s) within their region and through departmental work in developing and executing strategies to reduce or limit insureds' exposure to claims in accordance with corporate, department, and regional goals, plus strategic initiatives that create a competitive advantage in the marketplace with risk management services provided to insureds.

This position also assists in executing department innovative and traditional risk management activities, initiatives and projects and the achievement of specific company and department goals and objectives. These include, but are not limited to, supporting internal and external claims, underwriting, and department analytics, and the development of risk reduction strategies and products deployed online or via helpline telephone encounters, insured CME and non-CME educational activities, assessments, publications, and other services for insureds. The Regional Risk Management Manager is a critical member of the regional and departmental leadership team. The Regional Manager is responsible for ensuring optimum staff performance in all areas and smooth workflows that promote "the ease of doing business."

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

45% - Risk Management Management and Leadership:

  • Actively participates in the regional leadership team and the regional Claims Review Committee (CRC).
  • Manages regional and departmental development, review, refinement, and maintenance of Risk Management services.
  • Accountable for department and regional operations.
  • Collaborates with other Regional Managers, AVP Research and Development, and other team members.
  • Provides assigned region and HCPL insureds risk reduction strategies through review of department, internal, and external benchmark analytics; helpline phone consultations; educational activities; assessments, publications, and other services.
  • Develops and executes regional and department innovative and traditional risk management activities, including educational presentations.
  • Collaborates with Research and Development team and other team members in the development and implementation of sound, timely risk reduction principles within the assigned region and department that supports regional insureds, underwriting, claims, business development, agents, and other stakeholders to promote "ease of doing business".
  • Engages with actuary, underwriting, claims and external sources, including external counsel, to evaluate current loss trends, emerging risks, and patterns for incorporation into new and existing services.
  • Recommends, facilitates, and is accountable for change management within the region, department, and organization.
  • Develops and executes regional and department innovative and traditional risk management activities.
  • Develops, implements maintains consistent measures, policies, and procedures for delivery and communication of risk management services across the assigned HCPL regions, department, and other lines of business.
  • Liaison with regulatory and accrediting bodies as necessary.

15% - Performance Management:
  • Manages performance of individual assigned team members by establishing goals and objectives, effective ongoing coaching and mentoring throughout the year for successful performance and review.
  • Develops and executes risk resource performance measures.
  • Reviews and revises workflow, process and procedures for continuous improvement.

10% - Culture Management:
  • Develops, provides, and maintains a collaborative positive working relationships with internal and external department staff and leadership to promote open communication and accurate flow of information.
  • Develops succession plan and provides team member with appropriate resources to position.
  • Demonstrates ProAssurance values at all times.
  • Holds regional and department team members accountable for following cultural values and norms.
  • Contributes to team diversity, inclusiveness and equity.

10% - Strategic Management:
  • Accountable for executing regional and department strategic initiatives, goals and objectives.
  • Monitors performance against strategic plan and provides regular updates to management.

10% - Policy and Procedure Management and Compliance:
  • Develops, implements maintains consistent measures, policies, and procedures for delivery and communication of risk management services across the assigned HCPL regions, department, and other lines of business.
  • Monitors compliance, reports results and assures corrective actions for all functions.

5% - Financial Results Management:
  • Prepares budget and accountable for results to achieve annual HCPL annual determined financial targets.


Secondary Responsibilities:

5% - Other:
  • Oversee development of survey and other risk resource material. Other duties as assigned.
  • Travel up to 50%.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree, R.N., and/or Juris Doctorate from an accredited ABA university or college is required.
  • Minimum of eight years progressive management and experience in healthcare, leadership risk management/consulting, healthcare litigation or similar field required.
  • CPHRM preferred.
  • Two years supervisory experience preferred.
  • Excellent relationship skills.
  • Work independently with minimal direction and supervision. Self-directed: able to independently evaluate and determine priorities and manage projects and personnel.
  • Manage staff and a multitude of projects simultaneously. Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills to effectively delegate and direct others.
  • Exercise independent judgment and analytic ability in solving complex and sensitive problems.
  • Research topics, prepare and effectively present comprehensive oral and written reports and recommendations.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, including public speaking.
  • Excellent organizational skills to meet multiple deadlines and to plan and effectuate short and long range company and department activities.
  • Strong leadership, relationship and communications skills to develop and maintain highly-productive relationships with all ProAssurance departments.
  • Through understanding of both medical professional liability insurance from PRA and customer perspective. Ability to morph the business as market change occurs as well as provider needs.
  • Demonstrated management, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask and ability to maintain resilience during ambiguous and challenging engagements.
  • Ability to work collaboratively internally and externally.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with both attention to detail and strategic thinking.
  • Proficiency with webinar platform technology, Microsoft products and Power BI.
