Dow has an exciting opportunity for a Refrigeration Journeyman located in Midland, Michigan.

Responsibilities / Duties

Provides maintenance in acquired trade to plant operations. Plans the details and working procedures by determining replacement needs or new materials are required, and develops a logical approach to correct the problem. Performs work requiring a thorough knowledge of working trade. Fabricates parts if not commercially available, using machines and hand tools common to the trade. Advises and cautions operators, tradesmen and supervisors about potential problems, recurring failures, and inherent dangers involved. Takes corrective action to eliminate or reduce safety impact of potential issues identified. May oversee apprentices. Be able to give directions and assistance when needed. Works with plant engineering and project engineers on evaluating, assisting, checking, and installation of various equipment.

The Dow Chemical Company does not offer relocation assistance for this position. This includes reimbursement for travel expenses incurred to and from test sessions/interviews. Required Qualifications:

* A minimum of 5 years working on refrigeration/HVAC systems in a manufacturing environment.
* EPA Universal Technician certification.
* Must be able to read and understand wiring/control diagrams.
* Knowledgeable in the use of hand tools, power tools, and "tools of the trade", i.e., manifold gauges, vacuum pump, different leak detection methods, amp probe, multi-meters, etc.
* Must be 18 years old or older.

* Must be willing to work weekends, with or without accommodations
* Must be willing to work overtime (extra hours beyond your regular scheduled)
* Must have a current, valid US driver's license to drive fork lifts
* A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process


Preferred Qualifications:

* Working experience with 480 volt,circuits
* Must have a thorough knowledge of the operation and maintenance of electrical equipment in an industrial setting
* Strong electrical troubleshooting; experience with troubleshooting and repair of motor, circuits, variable frequency drives, various power supplies, and transformers

* Excellent communication skills


Physical Requirements:

Must be willing and able to do the following with or without a reasonable accommodation.
* Wear safety equipment, such as earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes
* Wear and use respirators.
* Perform frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.
* Work in tight or closed-in spaces.
* Climb stairs/ladders and work high off the ground.
* Stand or walk for extended periods of time.
* Frequent/occasional lifting of material weighing approximately 50 lbs.
* Our safety equipment has weight restrictions. To qualify, you must be able to use standard safety equipment which is rated for someone who weighs 300 pounds or less.


Education:

* A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED is required.
* Completion of apprenticeship program or completion of in-plant 30-month refrigeration apprenticeship program is preferred.
* An associate or higher in HVAC/R is also preferred.
