GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: Summarize the nature and level of work performed.
The Recovery Coach Supervisor is responsible for providing leadership and supervision of the work of the Recovery Coaches as part of the Program in Substance Use & Addiction Services (PSAS). The Recovery Coaches (RC) provide peer recovery support services to patients with substance use disorder (SUD) and assist patients in achieving sustained recovery. The Recovery Coach Supervisor oversees the group of Recovery Coaches as they work to facilitate patient access to recovery-oriented systems of care. The Recovery Coach Supervisor will be responsible for assisting RCs in monitoring productivity and general function of RC, managing case load, assisting RCs to integrate effectively with medical teams and work effectively within medical culture. The successful candidate should possess thorough understanding of the process of recovery, the importance of community and culture to addressing the barriers to successful recovery, familiarity with the function and culture of primary care and other medical settings, and a broad awareness of community resources and treatment options. The individual is a dynamic, self-starter with experience working as a recovery coach and a commitment to the profession. The supervisor will have excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated capacity to relate well with others across a wide spectrum of needs and responsibilities, the capacity to manage multiple concurrent tasks, a high focus on enhancing patient care, the essential commitment to involving patients in their own health care goals towards building patient's self-efficacy, as well as a strong skills in team building.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Indicate key areas of responsibility, major job duties, special projects and key objectives for this position. These items should be evaluated throughout the year and included in the written annual evaluation.
Management and Supervision 60%:
• Partner with an administrative manager to provide oversight to the Recovery Coach Program.
• With the support of a team of 3 senior recovery coaches, provide direct supervision to a team of about 12 recovery coaches including 1:1 supervision meetings, planning and leading bi-monthly group supervision meetings, making regular site visits where coaches are based.
• Provide constructive shadowing and on the job training to support staff development and to help RC identify solutions and plans of action.
• Provide expert guidance to RC staff to assist them in increasing and maintaining strong, effective collaborations with individuals and teams in the varied settings across MGH.
• Provide individual coaching and reflective supervision which supports staff and allows staff to talk through challenges or concerns with patients, ensures adherence to a patient centered, team-based model, ensures appropriate referrals and documentation into Epic and promotes their growth as professionals.
• Provide input to the ongoing development of the Recovery Coach role and program model at MGH. Work closely with the administrative manager and PSAS leadership team on continuous process improvement of various aspects of the programs
• Support professional development of Recovery Coach staff including achieving and maintaining the Recovery Coach certification.
• Support recovery coach recruitment efforts including participating in interviewing & decisions about best candidates and taking ownership of the content and direct training of new staff during onboarding .
• Participate in content of annual performance evaluations and provide input around management of performance issues.
• Maintain expert understanding of documentation requirements, provide regular training to coaching team on these requirements, and answer questions for coaching team as needed.
