Description:
This is a PRN (as needed) position to perform radiographic procedures at a technical level, providing radiation protection in accordance with prescribed standards set forth by the Indiana Department of Public Health. Performs a wide variety of technical procedures consistent with established policies and guidelines, using independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative. Assumes responsibility for the general care and safety of all patients while in the Radiology Department.

JOB DUTIES
1. Actively demonstrates the organization's mission and core values, and conducts oneself at all times in a manner consistent with these values.
2. Knows and adheres to all laws and regulations pertaining to patient health, safety and medical information.
3. Administers radiation in the production of high quality Radiographic images.
4. Exhibits mastery of all functions of: Radiographic equipment in use within the Main and E.R. departments and portable units, fluoroscopic equipment including mobile units, and image viewing systems and procedures pertinent to the Radiographic equipment used.
5. Produces images of the highest technical quality while adhering to the principle of ALARA in regards to radiation dose using shielding, collimation, and cassette sizes.
6. Exhibits ingenuity in the imaging of pediatric, geriatric, trauma, and the atypical patient. Produces optimal quality radiographs with little to no discomfort to such patients despite challenging physical or mental conditions.
7. Assists radiologist during fluoroscopy and other patient examinations. Prepares patient and exam room prior to radiologist arrival.
8. Positions and transfers patients, provides a safe environment, and uses positioning devices as necessary.
9. Assists with the administration of oral, rectal and IV contrast media. Is knowledgeable of adverse reactions and quickly identifies such and takes appropriate action.
10. Thoroughly explains all procedures to patient prior to study.
11. Manages patient/exam information through existing electronic systems. Ensures all patient/exam information/charges/supplies are reported accurately and in a timely fashion.
12. Adheres to universal precautions at all times.
13. Performs all functions necessary for the interpretation of radiographic images either through soft copy or hard copy read.
14. Maintains a professional and ethical relationship with all co-workers and hospital personnel.
15. Adheres strictly to HIPPA.
16. Responsible for cleaning radiology equipment, including portables, and maintaining a clean/stocked Radiology room.
17. Attends meetings and training sessions as required.
18. Performs all duties/exams relative to Diagnostic Radiology.
19. Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES

Education: Must be a graduate of a formal program in Radiologic Technology in an AMA approved school.

Licensure:

  • Current licensure with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (A.R.R.T.) with current licensure.
  • Current Indiana State Department of Health X-ray Operator Certificate.
  • Current BLS Certification.
  • Must be registry eligible.

Experience: None

Other Job Requirements: Must possess sound knowledge in the production of radiographs and possess analytical skills necessary in maintaining Radiology records.

Must possess interpersonal skill sufficient to interact well with patients and other hospital personnel.

Assigned hours within your shift, starting time, or days of work are subject to change based on departmental and/or organizational needs.
