The R&I Safety Specialist assists with the R&I safety programs and enforces the compliance requirements as established by Carlisle Construction Materials' Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) department. The incumbent in this position works closely with the R&I Maintenance Supervisor, all personnel in the R&I Center, and EH&S personnel.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Conducting Awareness Training

* Holding training sessions monthly for both exempt and nonexempt associates
* Organizing and tracking all quarterly training for non-exempt, exempt and maintenance employees
* Conducting Authorization Training

* LOTO, mobile equipment, powered industrial trucks, fall protection, incident investigation, respiratory protection, crane & hoist, confined space, CCM safety handbook, First Aid/CPR & bloodborne pathogens, and ergonomic audits
* Reviewing Good Catches/T3P's weekly

* Review T3P's and address concerns
* Assist in investigating Good Catch findings
* Incident Investigations

* Assisting with Process improvements
* Identifying contributing factors, providing support pictures, and taking witness statements
* Utilizing the 5-whys to solve problems analytically and supporting solutions with A3's
* Submitting/updating incident reports into the safety portal and following up with countermeasures
* Safety Alerts

* Communicate incidents to applicable parties
* Completing safety Gemba's if similar to process/areas in risk assessments
* Maintaining safety alert records and tracking signatures
* Safety Committee Meetings

* Conduct monthly safety committee meetings

* Support safety committee needs by submitting safety improvement work orders
* Lead and coach members on conditions walks and ergonomic assessments
* Develop and conduct safety audit program
* Support environmental compliance performing tasks such as

* Reporting environmental issues to the EH&S manager
* Assisting in ensuring and monitor regulatory issues. (i.e., DNR, EPA, DOT)
* Managing the disposal of hazardous waste, including the necessary documentation
* Maintain SDS books
* Equipment Safety

* Assist/Lead initial safety assessments for new equipment
* Assist with LOTO procedures as needed

Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

* Knowledge:

* Government safety regulations
* Lab specific safety policies
* General Manufacturing/Lab processes
* Skills:

* Group facilitation and leadership
* Computer Operations including the Microsoft Office Suite of Applications
* Problem-Solving and Troubleshooting
* Abilities:

* Communicating effectively with supervisors, management, and other employees in the R&IC
* Interpersonal skills including building relationships and persuading others
* Teaching, Coaching, and Training others using methods that are applicable to the individual's learning style

Working Conditions:

* Primarily temperature and humidity-controlled laboratory setting
* Routinely exposed to office and industrial settings
* Periodically exposed to outdoor environment
* Elevated work and near ceilings
* Airborne dust from processing equipment, cutting equipment, and chemical handling processes
* Exposure to chemicals and chemical processes with prescribed PPE
* Handling and use of numerous chemicals with prescribed PPE
* Hearing protection is occasionally required.
* Pinch hazards associated with moving mechanical parts
* Heavy equipment operation including forklift, hoist, crane, hydraulic lift, etc.
* Explosive hazards associated with numerous solvents
* Electrical hazards associated with numerous energy sources
* Working in environments up to and including Class 1, Division 1 classifications

* Education:

* HS Diploma Required
* Degree in Safety Management or related field (Engineering/Business) preferred

* Experience: A minimum of 1-3 years of related safety experience in a lab/manufacturing environment required
